G35X or 2002 S4?

G35X or 2002 S4?
This 2002 Audi S4 with 18,967 miles w/manual can be had for $34,601. I really like the G35X but I'm tired of taking new car depreciation hit with the lowball trade-in hit. This looks pretty tempting. What do you think? Thanks...

buy the new one and don't trade it in. no depreciation. or buy the USED car that's no where near as cool as the new one. or better, lease the new one...wail on it for 3 years and then get a new one again. i've done it for 9 yrs. it's great. buy your house, rent your car.

Re: G35X or 2002 S4?
2000 Audi S4 owner here. I considered a G35 coupe and sedan last spring before I bought a used S4. I drove all three cars. All three are nice. I still like the G, which is why I "lurk" on this forum.
You can get a 2002 S4 cheaper than 34K if you look hard. I wouldn't pay more than 31K.
Most enthusiasts I have spoken with regard Audi's all wheel drive as superior to most other companies, although I do not know details of Infiniti's technology (http://autozine.kyul.net/technical_s...d_2.htm#Torsen). Also, I hang with a biased, pro-Audi crowd.
I liked the S4 because it is easy to mod cheaply giving a car that easily outperforms current G35's. This could change as more aftermarket products are made for the G. I also found the Audi's interior to be far superior to the G35. One caveat, though, don't buy the biturbo without a warranty unless you are willing to pay to replace the turbos if/when they go.
Either way, both cars are beautiful and perform well. You can't go wrong.

Re: G35X or 2002 S4?
I agree with Redwing being an Audi owner as well my self 34K is too much for that car. Depending on condition 31K is a reasonable price. And if the car is Audi Assured or not, that means 100K mile warranty vs whats left of the remaining 50K warranty. Factor in cost of ownership, the audi will cost a bit more to own than the G35, i have one of those in the family as well.

I guess the real question would be is you want to use it as a daily driver car or weekend warrior. For Daily driver car I would go with G35x and for weekend fun I would go with S4 due to easily mod turbo.

Re: G35X or 2002 S4?
Thanks for all the help! I want AWD or FWD and the X has pulled me back to the G. I just wish it had a 6MT. A creampuff 2000+ S4 w/warranty would also fit the bill. I'm not a fan of car renting and mileage restrictions.

Get a RWD G35 6MT - and get H rated snow tires (and wheels) for another $1200 or so for winters ! The AWD drive only helps in traction - it does NOT help in braking or handling. A winter tire equipped RWD car will typically approach AWD with all seasons for traction.

Simple Stock vs stock
I'd go for the G35X IF it were avail in a manual, but since its only in stick I may lean towards the S4. If you plan on doign any mods to the car at all then go for the S4. Its so tuneable. The interior of the Audi is a lil nicer but nothing to choose are car over for. If you decide to go for the RWD G35 6spdVS the S4 6spd then id go for the G35. If its G35X Vs S4 tip/auto then I'd go for the G35X. All this is based on stock Vs stock, when u add factors like mods it all goes out the window. If you want me to elaborate further go ahead and ask away.
