Angry street parking in boston = smashed mirror -_-

So i park my car on the street for a night and i wake up to find that the passenger side view mirror is smashed, except it was on the curb side so someone had to have done it intentionally or while riding a bike (but i'm pretty sure it was intentional). The mirror part is smashed and the motor inside doesn't work very well, but i'm not sure if it's completely broken or repairable. Does anyone know how to remove the mirror part so that i can take a look at the motor? And if it is broken, does anyone know how to replace the side view mirror after i buy the unit myself? PLEASE HELP!! pictures will be up soon, but until then...any diy steps would be GREAT!

btw, i have an '04 G35x...thanks!

^+1 that does suck man...happened to me in my old car but it was a drunk driver who flew by my car while it was parked. to remove the mirror u need to pop off the door panel to gain access to the screws...there are plenty of used side mirrors around (junkyards, ebay, etcc)

if it was on the ground, chances are the mounts are broken. so you will need a new mirror. was the broken mirror on the curb side or street side? curb side=fuking *** wipes.. street side= street too narrow for you to park there.

The screws are located under the mirror. Where were you when this happened? It's pretty much plug and play.

screws are under the mirror, but you will need to pop the door panel and pop the triangle black piece on the inside of the door, right behind the mirror.. Then you can unscrew the screws and get the wire harness unclipped.

Don't be afraid of using force on the door panel

Sorry to hear bout your damage man..

Like I tell everyone.. if you are around the Fenway area.. Trilogy Apt's on Brookline Ave is 5 bucks over night..... 10 bucks if you get your car out before 9am!

I park on the street most of the time, but I have a private pull in spot infront of my school with camera and security.. but I'm still paranoid of thugs!

Sorry to hear about the smashed mirror incident. I used to live in Boston for 6 years when I was in college, and I used to think parallel parking accidents happen pretty often there until I started frequenting New York City. A broken side mirror is probably just as worse as a bumper dent, if not more. Where is common courtesy these days?

thanks for the responses everyone, pics will be up soon. The curb side mirror was damaged...so it was probably some punk walking by. I was parked in Allston next to herb chambers, so i guess it's pretty close to the local bars in the area -_-

But is there a way to remove the mirror part only so i can see if the motor is broken? I'm talking about the shiny part, not the whole unit, i want to try and fix the motor before a dealership tries to charge me for the whole unit when all they need to fix is the glass.

thanks all!!

Is the mirror still on solid? Does it still move with the power?

If so you might be able to have a glass shop get you a new mirror for it.

That sucks man, I had a similar incident not long ago in Boston. It wouldn't hurt to try taking it apart and trying to realign the mechansim, if it's really broken you can't break it any more really. I'd give it a try, take the thing off and poke at it in front of the TV for awhile. It would be nice if it was just the glass, good luck.
