an idle G

Due to failry significant business travel, my GSedan has been idle in my garage for 2 weeks. This will probably continue until March.(I only have 11K in 10 mths of ownership) Kept in my garage in Indy (where outside temps have been very cold, but garage temp. around 55 degrees). This may sound like a dumb question...but here goes : should I make sure my car is started and prehaps driven around the block every once in awhile ? Is there any benefit in starting it up every so often ?(BTW, getting behind the wheel of a G feels extra special after driving around a Chevy Impala rental for 2 weeks ! - not slamming the Impala, its not a bad "business highway travel" car)
Thanks.

Re: an idle G

Haha! Thats really funny..i have an Impala for work and I have to drive that during the day...EVERY DAY. Getting into the G on the weekends is great! I'm not positive that a G would need to be started that often, but probly at least twice a month. It definitly does not need to be driven as long as the car is left on for about five to ten minutes. Leaving the car off will drain the battery and just having it on charges it. Good luck..and isn;t it great to be back in the G??

Re: an idle G

I live in Indy too and have "idled" the G more than I would have like. Last spring I leased a small SUV (Suzuki XL-7) which is a really nice ride for light hauling and 4wd capability. I have been driving it this winter. But I try to get in the G at least once a week to drive it for a bit. So far, everything seems fine on the occasional runs. But I would agree with others that at least warming it up, or doing a short drive will keep it running better (ie battery, tires, fuel system, general lubercation, etc.) in the long run.

Re: an idle G

When my parents leave Indy for the winter, they leave two garages of cars just sitting there. I convinced them to get the guy who watches over the house to start each car, roll it out of the garage, rev it a little after it warms up, then put it back (or drive it around if it's a nice, dry day). I'd recommend having it driven around a bit. 2 weeks isn't as bad as a month or more, but it's still nice to know it still works.

A friend of mine got a brand new G, and moved to London for 6 months. No one in her family is driving it. I pray for it every night.

lol, Geo.

Some weekends I'll just hang around the house and not go out at all. When Monday rolls around, and it's time to go to work, I worry that my G35 hasn't been driven for 2 days.

Then I wonder who really has been wounded--me or my G.

Periodically starting and letting your car come to temp during the winter months without driving it around will create condensation in the crankcase. Unless you can drive it around, you're better off winterizing and not starting it at all. Just ask any Harley owner.
