Seat stuck/off track...Help

Hi Gang

My drivers seat seems to be jammed or stuck on its right rail. When I try to adjust forward, only the left track wants to move...and it makes a horrible sound. So I am stuck keeping the seat all the way back. Any ideas, FYIs or the like. I searched but couldn't find anything specific. I have an '03.5 and it is out of warranty (time, not mileage). This did happen once before and was fixed under warranty. I am going to try my dealership here in Austin to see if they will fix it free...but I am not too confident they will. TIY for any help.

Teddy

hoepfully your warranty just ran out and you have had it fixed last time within 12 months. you get a year warranty on all parts/labor from the dealer so if it broke again within 12 months it should be free regardless of you being out of the factory warranty or not.

Never thought about the penny jam...too easy! I will check it. Thanks to all for the replies. I think my legs have stretched from reaching for the pedal so I may have grown and inch! Thanks again. This is best enthusiast's site BY FAR!

you can get the seat out with simple hand tools to clean out under there and even grease the track but be sure to unplug the bat or else it will throw and airbag light

What has happened is the gear under the seat slide motor on the rh track has stripped. Unfortunately the only way to get the parts is as a seat lifter assembly. Ask your service advisor to submit a goodwill request.

Any update on this?

Exact same thing happened in our sedan last night.

It's a problem because it happened while I was driving (me 6'5") and it's my wife's car (her 5'2") LOL

Take the seat out and look. It's only 4 bolts.

same thing happened to my car... pulled the seat out, chequed the motor to find that it was the plastic gear on the rail/track as suggested by daveblank. Went to my dealer's parts dept to find a replacement part and the only way to get a replacement for a $5 part is by buying the seat lifter assembly ~$600... does anybody knows if there's a service bulletin for this and/or if the lifter assembly is used in another Nissan/infiniti car/model. I'm planning on calling Infiniti's customer affairs department to see if they can help.

This sounds like an ongoing problem with the sedans.
I have an 05' sedan, and the same thing happened to me, thank god it's still under warranty.
They ordered the parts, I will ask them what the REAL problem was with the seat once they fix it.
Should be done this week.
What is going on with these seats???????

Ask your dealer to submit a goodwill request. Also, sneak around to the back & ask any of the techs if they have an old lifter that they removed for the rocking problem. If they do ask if you can remove the gear. I've done that for a customer before.

My seat moves making a terrible noise when going back and forth on the rail. Also, it seems to make a left turn when almost all the way back, where the left side continues to move back as the right side is not moving on it's rail at all.

Goes in tommorrow but the warranty period expired. I have had the seat rocking issue 3 times since purchase and am wondering if that can be used against the dealer for paying for the current problem.
