Exclamation First Potential Problem with the "G"...

Hey guys its me here. Ive had the G for about 7-8 weeks now and all is well except for one minor thing...... You see, ever since I got the car the a/c has always been on. never off. I always thought the car sounded as it did the day I got it but was very surprised the other day. My girlfriend decided to turn off the a/c and out of no where my engine went almost silence. When I would accelerate before at 2-3-4krpm the car would have this "supercharger? if you will kind of noise that I thought was normal! Anyways i came to my senses and I think it now more of a bering going dry kind of noise. Makes me feel it might be the ac tensioner?
Does this car have one?
How expensive is it?
is it hard to replace?

I'm not a g35 expert here but where is the ac parts on the engine? passenger side or driver side?

Iether ways thanks for everything and I hope I can get this resolved soon.

I think you are hearing a difference because of the compressor.....when almost any car's A/C is running, the exhaust/engine is a bit louder and has a bit of lag. If you've always had your A/C on and just shut it off for the first time, that's most likely why your car seems so quiet.

You think that's it?

I know it sounds crasy but when the ac is on, I I drive it through the rpm band just the ac part itself(belt, tensioner)
is 80% of the noise. It honestly sounds like if a bearing was out. It took me a while to figure it out. Its hard to describe but it sounds like its reving up with the engine, its just as loud as my intake if not louder. I feel that its the tensioner, I just wanted to see if anybody else had experience with this??? thanks!

I dunno, i've heard that sort of noise with a lot of cars when the A/C is on. It would almost be like a whining, whirring noise when i roll through the RPM range.

I've expeirenced this in a few vehicles. My current vehicle has done this since new and the A/C works flawlessly.

its hard to record the noise because I have no cam but I'll see if I can find a way to record it. But it really sounds like a bearing going out/tensioner.

I've got and 03 with 86k miles. Last summer I noticed that ours started to sound a little louder with the AC on. Particularly accelerating from a stop we would hear a whir that increased with RPM. Once we got out of the subdivision or parking lot, it was overwhelmed by road noise. Nobody else could ever hear it and the AC worked great.

Last week it finally got bad enough to be diagnosed as a failing compressor. I had hoped it was just an idler/tensioner or perhaps even the condenser cooling fan - but no such luck. The part is gonna run me about $600.

probably the compressor going out. Lucky u don't own a FORD, those things make tons of noise just turning the steering wheel all the way around, and it's supposed to be normal.

Turning on and off the A/C button will tell you if its the compressor. If it is the idler pulley it will still be there if you turn on or off the A/C...

That's the powersteering pump you are hearing if you fully turn the steering wheel to full lock to the right or left.
