Gas Octane decision
#16
Enough said on this topic.
Your car well swallow any regular octane like a hooker looking for her next rock.
I use 94 octane,and yes I admit I've tried the light octane also(regular).
There is no comparison in "milage" or "performance".I am getting the exact same milage on my G with 94 as I did with my Grand Caravan on any regular. For $5 a tank difference I can live with that.
Any and I mean any(at least in Canada) gasoline that is 93 or higher "contains no Ethanol".That crap only plugs up fuel injectors if you use it long enough.
We need that sugar cane stuff they use in Brazil. It's better for cars than fossil fuel, and higher octane than ethanol.
Stay with what your using unless your unemployed!

hwy miles or not.

That was all highway driving and about 20 miles of hard city driving (my friend wanted to see what the car could do when I got to my destination). It was also before the TT. City driving before the TT I filled up regularly at 265-275 with 4-5 gallons left in my tank. Now its at 220-230.

Usually I get 18 mpg mixed highway and city.
Unless the driver is running the tank bone dry - which is not the proper way to equate an average miles per tank.
AT averaging 18 mpg the light will come on around 320 miles… if you run more than 20-30 miles beyond that it is not a reasonable figure to conclude miles per thankful.
Those that profess it is… we agree to disagree and I bet my statement stands true.

You must drive pretty hard and/or your mods really compromising your MPGs. Let me guess, you have a true dual exhaust? I had the Borla TD on my G for two weeks and my MPGs dropped by over 25% under the same driving styles. Your 3.7 gears aren't helping thing either.

As for running 87, it's fine. Your engine won't blow up. The engine has a very sensitive knock sensor and it will detect knock that you most likely can't hear. The downside to running 87 is the engine will be far more prone to knock/detonation, therefore the ECU is going to correct this problem by pulling timing and adding fuel to cool the combustion chamber. The end result will most likely be worse fuel mpgs than you got on 91+. In end, I don't think it's going to save you any money.

I use to live in Atlanta which has tons of stop and go and I got even better mpgs.

Guys, i have did the odometer and I get right around 400 miles per fill up. Yes I am almost sucking it dry, I think I have around 1 more gallon after 400 miles. Why cant I fill up on almost empty everytime? My light comes on at around 320 or so and I still have a few gallons to go. Its a 20 gallon take, why not get 20mpg. I dont drive all highway either, I just dont floor it and waste gas.

I do alot of highway driving for a living. My 05 at sedan gets anywhere from 360-400miles per tank depending on my driving style. I've only gotten 400 miles 5 or 6 times and the fuel light was on for about 20 miles. I notice if I do alot of city driving, I always get less than 360 miles per tank.

I've had my 03 sedan for about 2 months now and I average about 18-24mpg. It just depends on how I drive her. Its tough not to drop gear and go sometimes but if I take it easy I go 330-340 before the fill up light turns on.
I have a love and hate feeling about that light though. Its way on the conservetive side. I have never in these 2 months been able to pump more than 14.5gallons of gas in my car without the gas spilling out. I thought it might be the valve thingy in the nossel but that checked out ok.
I think I would preffer that the light come on with 2gal vs 5 though. These are just my experiences with fill up done soon after light comes on and doing the math from there.
P.S. I also live in a very flat part of this country
