It's due mostly to structural dynamics (I think that's the right term...been a while since I was in college). The bar is installed w/ some tension in it, creating a tight/stiff bond between the two top strut mounts. Think of it as a cross brace for the frame of your car...the more cross braces that are added, the stiffer the chassis is. It's like a sway bar, but is mounted in the top portion of the car (some cars also have the option of a rear bar that's mounted on top of the shocks (I think the 350Z has this)...which makes the car even more solid, in addition to the factory rear sway bars).

Does that help?

Here's an example that might help you. Hold two pencils straight up. Have someone push one of them toward the other. That is how your front strut towers act in turns and road imperfections. Now tape another pencil to the top of the two pencils and hold them up. Have someone try an push on one now. See the difference?

Does it really matter what type?

Just trying to explain how a strut bar helps with cornering. I was just trying to show how it makes the car more rigid.

It does make a huge difference. My accord has all 4 on it and I can hit a good turn at 80+ without braking.

Just put one in last night. Really easy install. Looks great, have not beat on it yet, but feels stiffer around turns. Great quality.
