All lights on and engine overheated
Man, i had a bad experience with this car and the dealership yesterday. I was on my way to get my hair cut and as i made a right turn and stepped on the gas the vehicle just shut down and would move past 30 mph. And to make matters worse, since its been friggin hot in socal these past couple of days the engine started to overheat. It was just a bad time. It gets worse with the dealership i had the car towed to as well. To make a long story short i will be sending a letter to Infiniti and i have called consumer affairs on the way i was treated by the dealership regarding my vehicle. I took some pics with my camera phone when it happened..

This is where the car started to overheat...it went almost all the way to the trouble zone.

This is pretty much the end result here after it all happened.....good thing Infiniti Roadside Assistance paid for the tow to the dealership
Any insight into what i should be looking for the dealership to say about why this happened. I just dont want to get the run around and them not fix it. The car only has 38,885 miles on it.

This is unheard of at the mileage you stated. Sorry to hear this happened to you on over the weekend. I have 52,300 miles in my '03.5 G and never had any problems with the engine overheating. Do you remember the last time your coolant fluid was changed? Have you checked to see if the fluid is near or at the MAX level?

Just got off the phone with them just now, they're telling me that there is probably nothing wrong with the thermostat, and that the overheating was due to the "limp" mode..which is pure BS. But they are looking into it and will have an answer for me before noon time...i hate dealing with dealerships...schit is retarted. All i know is they better fix it
I doubt limp mode would shut off your cooling system, radiator caps have been known to get stuck. I have a water temp sensor in place, the needle doesn't really start moving until 220f or so.

Yeah, i also just got off of the phone with consumer affairs...if you knew how i was treated by the staff there once i got my car towed..you'd flip out...anyway, they better fix that crap....also my car has the mechanical cooling fan and not the electric. If its anything like my 240 those bad boys fail all the time...i'm thinking if it's not the radiator cap..maybe its the fan clutch......any idea on why the car would just cut out like that????
I would guess the cooling issue is because you didn't check/refill your overflow and took some air into the system.
As for the limp mode, it could be from the overheat. When the car has air in the colling system the temp will go up and down over and over which could put the car into limp mode.
When I got my car back from a body shop a while back they didn't purge the air from the system and mine did that in ~65 degree weather.
Your car should not overheat, even in 115. There are a number of boosted cars with the oem cooling system who don't overheat in those temps.

+1 what others have said, I have sat in a stop and go traffic in 120-degree weather for about an hour nothing like this happened. It might be the coolant hose leaking near where it enters the intake manifold. Where the fans turned on when the needle went up or no? Hopefully your spacer will not make them ignore the car's problem. Anyway good luck !

Well, the dealership called me and said that the fins on the radiator (on the fans side) were bent down and coolant that is flowing through is not getting cooled by the air passing through. Then they said that they couldnt not warranty it because they do not know who bent the fins, but they tried to sell me a radiator for $800 installed. But whats funny is that the car has never been in an accident or has the radiator been taken out of the car. The only people that have ever worked on the car have been Infiniti dealerships. Well long story short, i called consumer affairs again and let them have it about not warrantying something that was probably faulty off of the assembly line. So now i have a loaner vehicle and its been two days since then and they have not called me on my car yet. Feels like i bought a suzuki or hyundai or something. Whats your thoughts on how they are handling this???
At least you have a loaner. If you had one of the cheap cars they don't give you one. It sucks but could be worse.
If they want to keep messing with you I would get the electric fan conversion and a used radiator. You could even do the electric conversion and a Koyo or AMS (much larger) radiator for less than $800.

hey TTRANK..is there anyway you can PM me what parts i need exactly and where to get them for the best price to do a fan and radiator conversion...i always wanted to get rid of the airplane sound from my mechanical fan...
I would talk to Jason@RiversideInfiniti for the right parts. If you have plans to turbo your car down the line I would look into a Koyo, PWR or AMS radiator at the same time. If not, just use the oem as it will be more than enough.
