Trade or not to Trade

Hey guys,

I have a 2003 base model G35 sedan (9500miles) and i'm considering trading my G35 for a new 2003 G35 sedan w/ the premium package and sports package. I'm talking to someone at Mission Viejo at the moment. Do you guys think its worth it? If i can get 0.9% apr and possibly get the the new car for 28K, should should I pull the trigger. my current rate is at 5.45% so it makes alittle difference. Should I get the 2004 model? much difference?

I made some calculation and I end up paying alittle less per month but add another year of payments. I got an estimate on my car from a dealer and they said I may be able to get 22-25K on it. So yea... does everything sound ok? opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take the difference in what you'd potentially have paid in 5 years if you traded, subtract the current value of the potential payments as-is. That'll be more than a couple thou, EASILY. Take that money now, and see how much it would cost you to get the features you would like, but aftermarket. What exactly are you wanting from Prem. and sports? You can install the mirror, you can get a new suspension, etc. for a lot less than trading in 99% of the package that wouldn't be changing. Just a thought.

Re: Trade or not to Trade

Yea.... the amount I'll lose is more than acouple of thou i guess, but here's what I'll gain since my car is base model:

Leather, 17" Wheels, better Suspensions, better headlights (auto setting and the xenon bulb), power seating, heated seats, and dual climax control.

I don't really know much about fixing up cars but I would imagine if I wanted to add some of these features into my car it would be pretty expensive as well. I really regret getting the base model car, but I got the car before I got my new job so go figure. Thanks GeoBau... decisions decisions... =/ any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

I say go for it, that's why I went for all the options I wanted because I didn't want to regret anything. Let the dealer try to sell your car because there's not much of a market out there for a base model G. Upgrade and if you decide to sell it later, with all the options on there, it'll be a lot easier.

Whenever you trade used for new you're going to get screwed. $22k for your 9,500 mile car sounds like a ripoff.

I vote "not trade"

Oh, didn't know you had cloth-- that's a somewhat expensive "aftermarket" upgrade, hehe.

You should do it. Even if it's a wash or, you are taking a slight hit moneywise considering NPV (net present value) of your payments, you will enjoy it a lot more. Plus 2004 Prem will have less depreciation than the base.

Assuming your current is an Auto?

Are you getting an 04 Auto or Stick?

04 stick has the limited slip differential, that's my only regret in getting an 03 stick, but it was a stretch to get it, the 04 wasn't avail at the time and would not have been discounted enough if it was...

Yea.. my Car is an AUTO cwmizner.

Well my decision seems to be going with the trade-in, but more opinions or advise would be nice and greatly appreciated.

at this moment i'm debating '03 vs '04.

The price difference between the 03 and 04 isn't much but according to the guy at Mission Viejo, they're trying to get rid of the '03 model and I may be able to get a better deal. is it worth getting the '04 model over the '03?

i sold cars get the galves price wave it in there face cause you know there going to give you 22k but sell it for 27k the places I worked at did it all the time cause they show you wholesale price and then they go and sell it for retail. This poor old guy brought in a outback loaded had 5k on it less than a year old he bought it for 24k we gave him 14.5k and sold it for 22k i felt sick about the whole thing thats why i dont do it any more

Re: Trade or not to Trade

Yup. Dealerships make more money on a trade-in than they do on a new car.

Re: Trade or not to Trade

Under NO circumstances should you pay more than $1000 over invoice (even including doc fees) for a 2004 sedan with whatever options you prefer. If your dealer won't deal, contact Grubbs Infiniti (www.grubbsinfiniti.com) and tell them you are a member of one of the G35 forums.
