Private party price

what do you all think I'd be able to get if I sell my G to a private party?

It's an 03 6 speed sedan with premium package, i paid 35k out the door and it has about 3000 miles on it.

I've had it listed for $33k, but ZERO responses.

Obviously I'm going to take it in the shorts, but by how much????

Re: Private party price

...I read somewhere that you lose 20% of the value just by driving it off the lot. Not sure how true that statement is, but I bought mine used for about $26k, the original owner paid about $32k. The car was 11 months old, and had 5000 miles.

Re: Private party price

Yeah, seems the G35 doesn't hold it's value particually well... not when compared to Acura or Lexus...

Re: Private party price

Is there any kind of comparison on how much the value goes down after a year, percentage wise, when compared to Lexus and Acura?

there is probably some data out there somewhere, but for real world test, go pick up an Auto Trader...

Re: Private party price

Okay, but how do you know what the vehicle sold for new, that is where I ran into a roadblock checking this.

You can try:
Online Kelly Blue Book

But I don't think it has 2004 prices yet, and I don't know how accurate the data is...

Re: Private party price

I'm not sure how "real world" accurate the data is, but you can go to www.edmunds.com, select "new cars", select "Infiniti", select the G35, select the trim level of the G, select the "Reviews & Specs" tab, select "True Cost to Own", you'll see that the Average cost per mile is $0.55, right beside that you can select "Compare Similar Vehicles". When I did, it compared the G35 to the Cadillac CTS, Audi A4, Acura TL and BMW 330i. It has comparisons based on True Cost to Own, Total Cash Price, Average Cost per Mile, Operating Cost, Depreciation Cost, and expected Resale Value for 5 years. It's a good starting point.

Re: Private party price

Okay, I did this based on what a '04 is priced at of each model:

2004 G35 Leather, no options, (’04 MSRP) $30100.
2003 G35 Leather, no options 15k miles $25960 (source NADA) (approx. 13.8%)

2004 Lexus ES 330, no options (’04 MSRP) $31725.
2003 Lexus ES 300, no options, 15k miles $28350 (source NADA) (approx 10.7%)

2004 Acura TL 3.2, no options (’04 MSRP) $32650.
2003 Acura TL 3.2 , no options, 15k miles $23050. (source NADA) (approx 29.4%)

I'm not sure about the Acura, was the '03 TL priced lower than the '04? That's quite a drop if not! I'm wondering if something was wrong on this one! (Oh, the NADA values are average trade-in).

Re: Private party price

We are getting a little off topic here...

If you were selling my car (03 sedan 6 speed with premium and under 3000 miles), what do you think is a reasonable asking price?

31k? 30k? 29k?

Re: Private party price

Sorry, check out http://www.nada.com see if that helps, I know that is what dealers here go by, not Kelley Blue Book!

Re: Private party price

If I was buying I'd figure about $28k. Anymore and i might as well buy new because then I'd know nothing's wrong with it.

But don't take it the wrong way. My brother in law is still trying to sell his 2002 330i for $27k for 9 months now. He paid $37 new. Still no takers. Dealer was only going to give him $22k on trade in so he decided just to hang on to it.

Hard to recuperate any money on any car unless it's a Ferarri.

Re: Private party price

Edmunds.com and NADA.com can both provide the suggested pricing for used cars. Based on Edmunds the suggested pricing for a '03 Sedan, 6MT w/premium and 3000 miles:
...Trade In is approx $25,000
...Private Party is approx. $26,500
...Dealer Retail is approx $29,000.
Hope it helps.

Re: Private party price

My credit union uses the NADA book, as do most banks around here, I don't think Edmunds or KBB are used in reaching any values around here!
