2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!
I saw the Lexus IS430 "project car" at the (chicago) auto show a few days ago. It looks hot. BTW, the frame for the G35 Sedan is the same for the FX35/45, so it will fit the 4.5L motor no prob. Also, the 4.5L motor has to have some sort of special feature that wont allow the starter motor to work while the engine is on. This is nessesary because the motor is so whisper quiet. Let loose some of that noise, and I will guess that more than 350hp are there for the taking.
This may sound counter intuetive, but lets hope Lexus outdoes Infinity with a production IS430 so Infinity is forced to do a G45 to keep up!
BTW, Infinity had NO consepts this year, and no new cars at the Auto Show.

That IS430 was rolled out at the LA Auto Show in January, and it was one sweet ride. If Lexus goes forward with it, it will compete with the S4 or M3. You had to see this thing to really appreciate it.

ColinR is right, and the VQ35 was just a VQ30 with increased stroke, not a redesigned powerplant. I don't think increasing displacement anymore is likely. I think there's plenty of room to make more power in air flow and manifolds. Altima vs. 350Z = 47 HP difference from same basic engine.

The IS430 was an aftermarket job sponsered by the Discovery Channel for the TV series Rides. (Lot's of cutting done to squeeze it in. I have not seen any info that Lexus picked it up as plan.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!
I haven't heard anything about additional horsepower in the 2005 model and I talk to reps from Infiniti (corporate) quite frequently. I may have been doing other things when he mentioned more hp, but I have yet to hear anything through Infiniti/Nissan Motor Co.
It's no secret that the Fuga will be replacing the current M45 and I've heard it will be available with the 3.5 and 4.5L option.
As for a G45 I REALLY want to make that happen. I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to do, I mean the FX chassis is nearly identical to that of the G's, just with a body lift. The underside of both vehicles have the same humps, valleys and ridges for the AWD system and drivetrain components. I'd guess an AWD 4.5L coupe wouldn't be much more than a bolt in affair, other than maybe the exhaust (easy fix - custom mandrel bent setup) and there also may be some hood clearance issues?

I traded my IS300 for my 2004 G35 6mt sedan and have been very pleased since . I get more interior room, more horsepower and better gas mileage. A big drawback for the IS300 is the 5 speed manual transmission instead of a six. I was at over 3000 RPM at 70 mph in 5th.
