Plus those engines are pretty strong, e.g. 1.8t stock internals can handle well over 300whp.
Yeah the chips for the N/A BMW's don't add too much.

The 1.8T is a good motor but has sooooooo much lag.

My friend had a S4 2.7TT which was a lot better.

Huh? Lag would not be a word I would use to describe a 1.8t. Maybe the big turbo ones, but the stock k03s is so small that it'll spool right up.

I liked my 1.8t, but that engine seriously lacks top end with stock boost, once you're chipped and around 22-23 ft/lbs, it become a lot more fun.

You're 100% right that the 2.7tt S4 is sweet though.

I just drove my friend's 05' (I think) 337 GTI wit the stock turbo, chip and exhaust and it had a TON of lag. I could push on the gas, take a drink of my soda and put it down before the boost kicked in. Everyone has their own opinion of what a lot of lag is so maybe it isn't yours but that is mine.

My car idles at 850rpm, even in 6th gear at 65mph I can step on it and be at full boost (~10psi) well before my friend's car if he downshifts to 4th.

Yeah, his S4 was awesome. He traded it in for a new one when the V8 came out. I like the look of the new one better but IMO the 2.7TT was better.

You can find several threads on this if you search for e-fan conversion. Here are two that I found by andycon which have all of the parts needed:

z tube is only $50 and doesn't add any power but it sounds very nice. A coupe midpipe will loose a lot of weight sound nice and seemed to free up a few hp. Can be found for $100-$120 used on this site. I know how a feel about coming from a muscle car to the G. I had a 708 RWHP 00' GT Mustang before my G For free you may do a coolant bypass mod on the G's throttle body I know my LS1 Z28 friend did that on his car. Usually this mod comes with an upgraded plenum spacer kit which would be my next power mod.

337s were only in '02, but it sounds like something might be wrong with his car because it shouldn't lag that much. It also could be that you're used to a bigger kick when boost hits, whereas the 1.8t's boost comes in pretty smooth until you really get on it.

Haha, I gress that's the differnce between a 1.8L 4-banger and a 3.5 V6. Anyways, back to the question at hand

Edit: You'll have to forgive me, coming from the VW world, I don't really know jack about the G35 or VQ, so when I find a thread that I can actually comment on, I jump at the chance.

The only free mods I've heard of are to push the VDC button (not really a mod) and pull the ABS fuse, but your brake lights won't work. Not much low hanging fruit on this car.

all you have to do is behave for a day and make a wish list and place under your pillow at night before bed, then the mod fairy will come and hook you up.
its that simple!

No his car is fine, I have driven a few in the last few months and they all were like that. I'm just spoiled.

I guess if he searched "poor man's intercooler" that would also be along the lines of what he's looking for...though not sure if it does anything.

Actually if you know someone with an Autoenginuity OBDII w/ Nissan enhanced, you can get up to 2 deg advance on your base timing. That's worth a few hp and free

Trade spare and jack for fix-a-flat- sounds like a "jingle"

Remove everything that isn't needed, remove door panels and gut the doors, rear seats, A/C, stereo/speakers/amp, air bags, carpet/undercarpet material, trim, you could remove the hood, trunk lid, and doors altogether if you're really hard core. Wear loose cotton clothes and lightweight shoes- no socks. I bet you'd be in the mid 13's for free that way.
