What's up everyone? Just need a little advise. I'm a recent convert to the world of G Wonderness and am curious if there are any inexpensive or free mods I can make to add some power to my 03 sedan. I'm coming from an 01 SS Camaro I owned since new and I need MORE SPEED!!!!!! The Camaro was making close to 600hp and 575trq by the time I parted with it, so the 260hp in the G, while still impressive, just isn't cutting it. I love the car, just need more ponies under the hood (on a very tight budget, new baby-hence no more Camaro!)! Any ideas?
Also, has anyone converted their 03-04 Sedan to electric fans? I want to get rid of the noise and hopefully free up a little power too! Also, I work for a Nissan dealer, so factory parts are easy for me to come by and they're "cheap" if anyone needs parts or has factory mods they know about for more power. Thanks!!

your looking for "free" power mods..??
i dont think theres much for that..hehe...a spacer seems to be the best bang for the buck..then perhaps an intake..but i dont think those parts lay around for free..hehe

1) Racing stripes...good for 35HP on a G
2)No really if you want anything close to your camero your gonna need a twin turbo. Ttrank has got it and he's pushin 400 to the tires
3) nothing good is ever free

When I say "free", I mean modifications to the airbox or bypassing different systems, etc. Gotta remember, I'm a converted GM guy and I'm used to Chevy V8's and the little tricks you can use to extract "free" horsepower. I'm not expecting to make the 600hp my Camaro was without twins or something like that. I'm just looking for a good starting point! I'll get deeper into large mods further down the road.

As you already know, there is no "free" horsepower out there. You gotta pay to play. As far as little free mods you can do, I can't think of any for the G35. Obviously, replace the OEM filter with a K&N. Also, I think one of the best things you can do is add a Motordyne plenum spacer to help the engine breath. I've got a 1/2" spacer on both my FX35 and my G35, it has helped out the responsiveness on both. Also you might consider replacing the 03 midpipe with a lighter one from the 05-06 sedan or G35 coupe; not only is it lighter but the sound is more aggressive.

i think he wants to like cut a hole in the airbox and gain 5HP kinda mods....those are non-existant on this car unfortunately.

Unfortunately this car isn't like an LS1 or LT1. There really aren't any free mods. If it makes you feel any better, your 260hp motor is actually closer to 275hp (underrated). The stock airbox isn't restrictive, the exhaust manifolds are close to headers, the exhaust itself is pretty good too. As for an e-fan conversion, this car doesn't react to the converison like say a Trailblazer SS e-fan conversion (~15hwhp). From the dynos that have been posted, there doesn't appear to be a gain from the swap on the VQ35.
Actually, that does make me feel a little better! Any ideas on someone who makes a electric fan conversion for the car or do I just need to dig in the Nissan parts bin? Even if it doesn't make anymore power, I'll be glad to get rid of the fan roar at low speeds! I appreciate all the great info!

hey lava...when you find out the exact parts needed and cost..let me know cuz i have the same issue..i hate the BS mechanical fan noice. I just can't get any solid info (parts, part numbers, cost) from anyone.
The only real free power mods you can do the G is to take off some weight. It is not that easy since the 03/04 is under 3400lbs as-is but it can be done.
Does your car still have the stock wheels? If it has some kind of heavy cast aftermarket wheels, drop those bad boys. That is one of the best ways. You can also take out the spare.

Thanks

Around 450 wheel right now on the stock block and going to build it next month with hopes of ~525-550wheel hp on pump gas and ~600+wheel hp on race.
Should be a blast plus Iam sick of looking at this stack of parts sitting in my house just waiting...To the OP, I can help with whatever mods you are looking at or at least give my $0.02 because most likely I either have them or have tried them.

heres a question:
how does audi, bmw, and other german cars just get their cars chipped and gain 15-30hp? can we do it for our cars? i haven't heard alot about ppl having impressive gains like the bimmers.

idk about the BMWs (except the 335), but the VAG cars make incredible gains with a re-flash because their turboed.
The stock programing on the 1.8t, 2.7tt, and especially the direct injection 2.0t is no where near as aggressive as it could be. 1.8ts can gain almost 30hp, and 2.0ts make almost 300ft/lbs at the crank with just a chip.
Plus those engines are pretty strong, e.g. 1.8t stock internals can handle well over 300whp.

You can get a technosquare ECU flash for your car and get
~10hp but I have always been a fan of a piggyback or stand alone ECU with a custom tune. It costs more but you get more.
The big gains are on the turbo cars where the chip turns up the boost.
