04' AWD on icy road ?

how's AWD making a stop on icy road ? Is it the same as our RWD ? Everytime when I make a stop over ice (for some reason, there is always ice near stop signs), the car skids (VDC/ABS/etc kick in)..... Wonder if AWD is any better in that situation ?

What kind of tires do you have? AWD won't help much with stopping but good snow tires will help.

AWD only helps you get moving forward. In braking and cornering, it would actually be at a slight disadvantage, due to the extra weight.. more inertia to overcome. Tire can definately make a big impact, though.

Stock 5-spoke sport wheels. I think I just happened to wash the car the day before that autocross.

On sheer ice what does stop well? Unless you have spiked tires like they use in the Swedish Rally WRC.

I have Bridgestone Blizzak WS50s. IMO, they do more than AWD could ever do for my winter driving. I wouldn't be without them.
