Which exhaust is best?

The stillen is discussed at length, some info on Borla, the cool tt has GReddy

Is there a thread that talks about which one is 'best'?

Are they somewhat equal in their performance gains?

How does sound compare? etc, etc...

Re: Which exhaust is best?

Which one's "best" depends on your personal priorities. I've noticed on most forums the one that's "best" is usually the one that was bought by that particular person.

That said, I chose the Stillen Sedan exhaust as it was the one that most closely met my priorities.

I've attached their R&D torque and hp charts. Admittedly, the base line number's are low, but the plot duplicates exactly how my car acted with the stock exhaust system. I'm sure you'll note there's a big difference between the baseline and exhaust system dyno dates. Also note the jagged base line plot from 2000 rpm to 3200rpm. This may be torgue converter slip.

Re: Which exhaust is best?

DaveO,

Am I reading that right? Did your stock Sedan (Auto?) pull about 203 HP and 202 lbs/Trq? If you multiply that by 1.25 for an auto's drive train loss...that's not even 255 hp or trq?

Also, it looks like the stillen exhaust gave you a whopping 20 HP and Tq addition...is this correct?

Ok. I own the Stillen exhaust so I have no axe to grind against them, but that dyno ladies and gentlemen is the very definition of HOME COOKIN'.

Re: Which exhaust is best?

The dyno was done on either Stillen's test car or Alex's personal Sedan. I don't really know which one. I can say that my car now has a lot more dyno-butt torque and hp with the Stillen Exhaust.

Re: Which exhaust is best?

I can say the same for the Borla, good butt-dyno results.

whats butt-dyno?

It's that notoriously unreliable data that your butt receives about HP changes in response to mods. ie. that feeling in your backside that your car seems faster or slower when you step on it. Of course, things like a more aggressive sound from your exhaust makes the car seem faster and your butt-dyno can interpret this as an increase in horse-power! All goes to show that your brain and your butt are inter-connected!

Re: Which exhaust is best?

I love the Stillen cat back exhaust. I don't know about the Borla, but the Stillen makes a deep soft tone rumble when down shifting or shifting up between gears. Sounds really great in a tunnel with the echos reverberating through. Remember it is a good idea to tune or reprogram your ECU chip if you get the Stillen exhaust. The instructions on how to do this is in one of the forums.

Sixgearsedan: I think you meant to say reset your ECU right? There are only a few shops around that can reprogram our ECUs, Technosquare to name one. A how to on reprogramming the ECU would be way beyond the scope of this forum.

Re: Which exhaust is best?

My G-Tech confirmed my dyno-butt readings conclusively.
