Which exhaust is best?
Re: Which exhaust is best?
You have a very finely tuned butt indeed my friend!
I just got a G-Timer. So, what weight do we enter in these things to get a reasonably accurate HP reading? Do we have to have th car weighed or just go by Infiniti specs? Full or half tank. BTW, which G-Tech did you get?

Re: Which exhaust is best?
gordgee,
Arguably my dyno-butt estimates for a car that I drive everyday have been pretty good over the years. The most noticable G35 AT Sedan mods have been the TechnoSquare ECM upgrade and Stillen Exhaust System.
The Stillen exhaust system power improvement became very noticable after the ECU was done learning. I purposely didn't reset the ECU to see how long it would take and was surprised when it took well over a week. (Once again this reinforces the advantage of doing an ECM reset after every engine mod).
I bought the G-Tech Competition Pro from Tesla Electronics and am currently using an estimated 3670 lbs for weight wth driver. I've found the hp and torque numbers are not anywhere near typical dyno numbers. According to Tesla's technical folks this is normal (they explained why but I don't remember the details). I've used all the run information, including hp & torque vs. rpm, for differential comparsions and not paid much attention to the hard number values.

Re: Which exhaust is best?
DaveO, I'm assuming that the numbers run low since they account for aerodynamic drag which a dyno does not do.
Why 3670 for the weight of the car + driver? Are you a *really* big dude?

Re: Which exhaust is best?
Steve,
Your assumption is right. The G-Tech's hp and torque numbers are lower than dyno numbers partly due to "real world" factors including air resistance, rolling friction, etc.
As for total weight used, it is indeed an estimate. Like Gordgee, I not sure what Infiniti's definition of curb weight really encompasses. From experience with other cars, actual "street" weights tends to be higher than advertised. In a past post someone noted that their G35 Sedan weighed in around 3500 lbs, without driver. I also noted the latest C&D Sedan comparsion indicates their G35 MT Sedan weighed 3500 lbs. If that's true then my estimate with driver is actually low since I'm currently just over 200 lbs. (I have a hint for you young folks... be prepared to stop eating when you get old or don't get old!)
