Re: Shifting

Gordgee's 7 wire hypergrounding kit helps with the auto tranny shifting
on the 2003-2003.5 cars. I would highly recommend trying the HG kit
to see if your shifting quickens. I noticed quicker shifts when I put on
the original 7 wire kit, as did most of us.

Re: Shifting

Sounds to me as if the 2004 sedan AT is now equipped with the coupe's tranny. This was a difference between the two G35 models in '03 & '03.5. Slow shift may be related to full or part throttle position as noted or ecu reset will help as well. Myself I prefer top gear limiting that I have on my '03.5 sedan as detailed otherwise I would have bought the manual had it not been for the choppy shifts and vibration I felt thru the shifter during 2 test drives.

Re: Shifting

If the 6 speed was available on the G35x I would have purchased it but since its not I have to do with what I have.

I will try the 7 ground wire kit, sure wish there was a shift kit or something to really POP that next gear.

Re: Shifting

reading this post - boy am I happy I have the 6MT. Ive always hated automatics, but thought that a manumatic might be a good compromise - thinking it was basically a clutchless manual, what Im reading though is that it really is just the same old auto always trying to cover for you and second guess you.

Re: Shifting

I have owned manual transmission cars in the past and have
never been a fan of automatics. But my G35 5AT is pretty nice.
I don't have the problems described here with the 2004s. The
shifts in manumatic mode are pretty quick, like within 1 second.
The GroundingGear HG kit made a difference. Regular ECU resets
also seem to help.

Re: Shifting

I agree with cato and whoever else may have said it- I have a 04 X and I thought it shifted slowly when downshifting from 5th to 4th. The GroundingGear made a big difference! I would say it cut shifting by 50%. Furthermore, I tried and tried the easy ECU and couldn't get it to work. So I disconnected the battery for 12 hours and that changed everything. In both Manumatic and regular drive mode. Since my car has just under 2000 miles and I babied it, I guess the ECU adjusted to sissy driving. I plan on disconnecting the battery every 1500 miles.
My brother has a Mercedes C 240 and his manumatic mode keeps the car in the last gear used when it comes to a stop. So you try to accelerate and the car goes nowhere. Then you realize the car is still in 3rd gear and downshift. I like the G manumatic much better, the automatic downshifting provides power in the right gear when you want to get going again.

If it's a G it's 4 me!
