Photoshop in 2004 Brochure!

I just received the 2004 Sedan brochure which is very nice as I wanted the brochure to go along with my 2004 sedan. It is a better brochure IMO than the 2003 one but as I was looking through it, I came upon page 20 for those of you who have it. I noticed they had the 6MT and was happy but then noticed the pedals under the steering wheel. They are the same drilled aluminum pedals as the 5AT model shown in the 2003 brochure!

Realizing something was amiss, I checked the shifter area a bit better and noticed it did not fit in as well into the cabin as the real deal and then noticed that the lighting on the shifter is a bit different. I then took out the 2003 brochure and saw that it is the same picture of the interior as the 2003 car except they photoshopped the shifter into it.

Not a big thing, but I was suprised Infiniti couldn't have just taken a new picture of the interior of a 6MT sedan. Has anyone else noticed this?

Just my two cents here, I am a graphic artist, or was, and you would be surprised how easy it is to miss a detail like that when they are rushing you to press, especially if you aren't a big car person! I've had some misses that were not found until the finished product was done over the years, I was pretty impressed with the 2004 brochure, very nice piece of work!

Damn, I'm impressed you even noticed that. You can barely even see the pedals in that picture.

Oh I know they must be pushing those graphics artists, but I feel it is the managments job to make sure things are fine. Still a good chop and only a very critical eye would catch it. The thing that caught my eyes were the pedals not the shifter. The large aluminum brake pedal was the dead giveaway. Speaking of which, originally were they planning on using aluminum pedals? Guess a 2005 option.

I just got the brochure out and looked at that pic, geez, I can for sure see how they would have missed that, it's barely visible, still a very good job of photo manipulating! You have to remember too, this was most likely done by an advertising agency, and not an Infiniti employee, it's very easy for something to fall between the cracks, especially if there are a bunch of people involved! I worked in TV, between news and promotion, it was a madhouse!

I can fully understand how the mistake was made and it was easy to miss. The thing which is a little suprising though is that they didn't just pull a pic off of Infiniti's press website. I checked it out a while back and they had plenty of genuine 6MT interiors. Seems like that would have been less trouble.

Well, that could be, but depends on how the pics were shot, the pics on the web are low-res, 72dpi, and what is needed for print is hi-res, 300dpi, I myself, always tried to start with a hi-res and take it into a low-res graphic/pic, it would seem to me, that all the pics would start as a hi-res, but who knows! You can take a 300dpi into a 72dpi, but not the other way!

The ones I saw on the web were something like 2400X1400 or something like that which seems pretty high res to me.

That would be the size of the image, but the the dpi is what determines the resolution the higher the dpi, the "sharper" the image is, for instance, TV is 72 dpi, as is most of the stuff on a webpage, and if you look at a 72 dpi in Photoshop, and zoom in on it, it's fuzzy looking, well, that's what happens when you print using that image, even though you bring it to a 300 dpi environment, you can lower the res, but not visually increase it.

I see. Also how do they take the pictures like this for the brochures? I take it they have a cut up cabin.

2400 at 300dpi is 8". That's plenty big for most print applications, and way too big for the web.

It appears they do for some of these shots, like that total interior shot for sure has to be, that could be why the "doctoring" of the AT pic, never thought of that! I would think they would actually produce a car like that, one they could open up, just for that purpose, makes sense to me!
