45,000 mile service

I made an appointment to get the oil changed in my '03, and the guy said that I should get the 45,000 mile service done (at 43.5K now). Is it worth doing? He said they check the fluids, new air filter, fuel additive. He said it would be about $250. If I can do all the stuff myself I obviously won't do it.

By the way, how much should an oil change cost? I've never taken any of my previous cars in before, always did them myself. The home owners association says we are not allowed to work on our cars in the parking lot (condos). I may do it anyway.

I paid closer to $280 for my 45K service on my '04 (at just under 43K, but it was before my warranty expired).

I normally do my oil changes for just over $30 at a convenient Nissan, my Infiniti dealership charges more than that for the oil change.

The 45K service also includes tire rotation, cabin air filter, etc. Some people here do it all.

I would not take any of my cars to those quick lube places. I have heard of two many BAAAD stories.

I don't think he mentioned a quick lube place. Convenient Nissan seems to be a dealer, and would obviously charge less than the Infiniti dealer for services

The Nissan dealership is convenient for me, being across the street from where I work. Drop it off after lunch, pick it up later in the afternoon. Convenient is the description, not the name. I even normally do my 7500 mile service there (tire rotation, inspections, doing my 15000 and 30000 type services at the Infiniti dealership). My Infiniti dealership is 200 miles away.

I haven't used an oil change place since I had my transmission service done on a previous car, then ended up with transmission fluid over my garage floor. They had stripped the plug.

No, its cheaper to get an oil change(35 bucks) + airfilter(20 bucks) one visit

next oilchange + ATF flush(125 ish)

next oilchange + incabin filter(80 bucks)

get tires rotated for free at disc. tire.
have brakecheck do free brake inspection on pad life

Never do a bundle xx,xxx mi service as they just change the oil/filter, engine filter and check the tire pressure, CHECK the other fluids, check all this long list of bs like the windshield wipers etc and poke you in the eyes
for $345,245.95

btw, if you're battery is original, you may want to go ahead and replace the battery yourself before you get stuck somewhere needing to get a jump or missing a flight somewhere cause your car won't start and all that shiit.
Autozone gold 700 CCA for 80 bucks.

You can do all the 45K service items yourself without needing to take the car to the dealer. Do a search for things like "replace air filter" and "oil change", and you should come up with results of people doing the jobs themselves in the past.

I'm not sure if a fuel additive is necessary for our cars since I've never heard of the recommendation to put one in the G, but perhaps someone else can chime in. I've heard good things though about the BG44K fuel additive.

I don't label myself as a mechanic but I do my own oil changes on the G (matter of fact, I gotta do one in a week or two). I have a set of Rhino ramps I use to prop the vehicle up, and all the necessary tools and empty water/milk containers to do the oil change and contain the old recycled oil. For me it costs on average $35 for new oil and filter parts. Costs less than what the dealer charges, and most important of all, I know that the job is done right. As for your situation with the condo, I'm on the same boat with you for my condo, so lately I've been using the empty parking lot behind the Autozone near my condo

The owner's manual does not recommend using any fuel additives, so use at your own risk (and risk of voiding your warranty). Here's a snippet from my 05 manual (page 9-4):

Aftermarket fuel additives

INFINITI does not recommend the use of
any aftermarket fuel additives (i.e. fuel injector
cleaner, octane booster, intake
valve deposit removers, etc.) which are
sold commercially. Many of these additives
intended for gum, varnish or deposit
removal may contain active solvent or
similar ingredients that can be harmful to
the fuel system and engine.

I think I got hosed on the oil change. I had them put Mobile 1 Full Synthetic in and it came out to $72.

Thats how much they charge at my local dealer too. Its insaine. Absolutely no reason why it should cost over $45 plus tax. I usually get my oil changed at Nissan where they charge $40 total for synthetic blend.

I change my own oil its sooo easy. I run moblie 1 fully synthetic and K&N oil filters. The K&N oil filters will filter to a much smaller micron of particulates while flowing the same amount of oil. I use them on my race car too! As far as addittives go The only kind of fuel cleaners I use is the "BG" products they are professional grade and the "Lucas Oil" fuel cleaner and upper cylinder lube is a good product, it is not a solvent it is more of an oily substance. THough I havn't used any in my G yet I want to be really careful with my baby!!
