FX35 as a loaner car

I have an 06 sedan Sport and I really like my car. From What I understand the FX has the same engine and 5AT that the G has but it sure doesnt feel like it. This is the second time I have gotten an FX as a loaner and the second time that I am immediately blown away at how fast the tranny shifts compared to my G. It makes my car feel like it's shifts are in slow motion compared to the FX.

Has anyone else who has a G driven an FX and noticed this? I feel it is quite obvious and I must say, I like the quick shifting 5AT from the FX VS. the lazy shifting of my car. If they are they same tranny then is there any way to make mine speed up shift like the FX?

I never got an FX as a loaner. I love those things and have thought about getting one many times.

yeah, i had an fx35 as a loaner when having a tranny and clutch installed under warranty.

the engine note was great, but i'm still not a fan of autoboxes. that said, the shifts were crisp and well calibrated.

the fx had a big blind spot at the rear pillar, and i had to watch my head getting in.

The FX 35 is a great car. I just traded in an '06 RWD for an '08 AWD for my wife. I preferred the '06 RWD - it felt much quicker and lighter (possibly due to the added weight of the AWD).

you can get an FX in rwd??? seems odd that a $50-$60K SUV would come w/out awd.

Yes you can get an FX RWD.. we had an 06 FX35 RWD before the G.. it was a fun SUV to drive my wife loved it i didn't.. only because i'm not an SUV person but that thing rides like a car, loved the exhaust sound and very comfortable

G vs FX 5AT

I have an '03 sport sedan, and my wife drives an '04 FX35 Premium. I can say that under normal driving conditions, the shifts do seem a bit more pronounced in the FX, and the exhaust note is just freakin sweet.

However, the G is so much lighter on its feet it makes the FX feel almost as though it's lumbering through the gears when you switch betweeen the two regularly. Don't get me wrong - the FX holds its own in terms of the driving experience, but I still find myself drawn to the daily driver when they're both available ;-)

No comparison fellas. Power to weight of a sedan owns that of a suv.

More like a $40k-$50k SUV if you're talking about a 35. $50k-$60k is 45 territory. And why is it odd that it'd come without AWD? Some folks don't need the added weight and complexity of an AWD system so why pay for it. Not everyone needs an AWD vehicle. Here in Hawaii we sell more 45s than we do 35 AWDs and we usually only sell about one 45 a month. That should give you an idea of how many 35 AWDs we move around here...or don't move rather. The majority of FXs we move are 35 RWD models. Conversely, I'm sure on the East Coast the majority of FXs sold there are 35 AWD models.

I am in the northeast and felt the need for an AWD FX, but if I had to do it over I would defininately NOT get the AWD. It is not as good a driving experience as the RWD version. My '07 G35 is also an AWD and I wish I had opted for the sport model.

^^the loaner i had came with the sticker price in the glove box. it was an '08 fx35 and came to $56K before taxes etc. this fx was lightly optioned - no navi or sport wheels, but it was awd.

checking the canada infiniti website, the starting price for a 35 is $55K. so this is where i'm getting my figures from. i find it hard to believe you can pick up a new '08 for $40K.

with this in mind, i would expect awd to be a standard feature.

if weight is a concern then purchasing an SUV is counter-intuitive, and awd would be a marginal increase to an already heavy vehicle. a rear-drive G or M would suffice fine. if the rear seats fold down in an M (?) it would have just as much cargo capacity.

EDIT - i just looked at the US website and saw that the 35 (awd or rwd) starts at < $40K! i had no idea the disparity was that large between US and canada! i guess this is why so many canadians are heading down south to buy vehicles.

I have the 04 FX35 RWD and my wife/I also have the 03 G35. As many people have mentioned, the MM tranny in the FX is clearly quicker/crisper than the G35. I love driving it because the response in MM is very good. But the G35 definately has the power to weight advantage. Even though the tranny is a little slower/sloppier, when you floor it there is no comparison....the G35 is much quicker. Same engine, but 3300 lbs versus 4300 lbs is significant.
