a non G35 sedan owner saying hi

ive always liked sedans over 4 seater coupes because of practical reasons and ive been a fan of the G35 6speed manual alot so i decided to introduce myself in here first.
here is my ride, its a 97 M3 sedan with the manual transmission.

Welcome-- I see you have excellent taste in cars. I've always favored the sedans too, especially when you don't sacrifice performance. Nice car!

Welcome to our boards, yotone.

I was hoping the new generation M3's would come in four doors, but it never happened. If they made one, I don't think I'd be driving my G right now.

The G sedan weighs less than the coupe. However, I can't speak for the track since I don't know.

there will be a new M3 based sedan in a few years. speculation is that it will be fitted with a V8 in both coupe and in sedan form. i foget but theyre planning on renaming the coupe the M4 and the sedan the new M3.

Re: a non G35 sedan owner saying hi

yotone... welcome to the board!!

the e36 M3 is THE CAR... that got me into cars. when i was 16, the e36 first came out... and all my friends would try to convince me that a vette was better... ummm, no.

i think you'll find that the g35 has more power then an e36 m3, but dynamically is a little worse (g owners flame me all you want for saying that, haha).

i generally do not like the direction bmw has gone with the m cars... the new m3 (or m4 maybe), will have a v8, and will surely be atleast 3500 pounds. How does bmw expect to compete with a 3000 pounds 2wd 911 carrera with such a heavy car? The E36 is the best power/weight combo of the m3s, especially the euro one. I say keep your e36... and get a g35... haha, thats what the lottery is for =)

Yotone...welcome...I too am not an "official" owner of the wonderful G35 Sedan (mine is on order). I have found a bunch of great information regarding my anticipated ownership...by the time you get done posting, you will be persuaded into buying one...
p.s...I test drove a 2004 M3 first then the 2004 G35...and I went back for the G35

Re: a non G35 sedan owner saying hi

I actually toyed with the idea of picking up a used E36 M3, but decided I wanted a new car. Then I almost got an E46 330i instead of my G35.

Having 4 doors was never an option....

Re: a non G35 sedan owner saying hi

I think you will find after reading some threads here that the sedan is very comparable to the coupe on the track, except for brake fade. sedan has world class brakes fro the first 10-12 high speed stops., the coupe has brembos all day long. sedan is lighter option for option than the coupe by about 100 lbs. sedan 6mt is probably underrated and more like 270-280 hp. This is my "best guess" after having studied dozens of VQ35DE dynos from everything from a Z down to the altima.

throw in some ceramic or metallic pads, upgrade to motul or other DOT 5+ brake fluid, some SS brake lines and you will be close to the brembo performance but not quite there. Throw on some slotted rotors and you will still be below the performance of the brembos. At this point you got about 800 dollars invested and you are still at less than the big brake performance.

so if you are seriously considering a g35 sedan and want to track it regularly, fork over the cash for brembos/stoptech brakes or be ready to bring a couple sets of pads EACH time you hit the track, especially the rear pads. they go that quick. This is a complaint from non brembo 350z's as well.

Welcome Yo

I came *THAT* close to purchasing your same car used but decided on the G. I am sure I woulda been happy with the M3 but I have been smiling for a year straight owning my G35 (I tell my wife the smile is because of her). Plus this list is reason enough to own a G35. Info galore and just a great bunch of enthusiasts (my shameless kiss up for the day!)
