DaveO cut and shaped most of mine... I did some finishing sanding and straightened some of the lines prior to painting... just mark out the shape and cut just outside the line with a dremel... I suggest using a filter mask ‘cause the fine fibers can be gnarly... once the basic shape is cut sand the edges... plan on painting the whole thing because after cutting, the edges are going to ruin the CF finish (I don’t like CF look anyway so I wanted mine painted)... PM DaveO for technical pointers.

Here's how mine turned out.

heres my question: why would you get a something cf just to cover it up with paint again? wouldn't you want to show that you have cf? If you were going to paint over it, why not just paint over the stock one instead of wasting money painting the cf?

Maybe your right for the engine cover but I would paint my CF hood if I got it...I want the hood is a lighter hood but do I really want the look of a CF hood. Ferarris and exotics have CF body but do they just leave it CF? Nope...Matters of taste and style you are going for...

You can not shape the stock one the way mine is... and you can not put an Infiniti emblem on a stock Z cover without filling the Nissan emblem with resin... bottom line is you simply can not get a cover to look like the one a posted without having a CF one to begin with. I hate the look of CF - but needed the shape of the cover.

I do alot of CF work, use a fiber disk on the dremel. Make sure you have a good dust mask and a shop vac is nice as well. Use masking tape to outline the cut and help protect the area that won't be trimmed away, be carefull the tape will help protect from scratches not the cutting wheel.
