Going to be buying a G soon

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forumns. My name is Vijay, and I will most likely be buying a G35 sedan in the near future. I currently drive a 2002 3.5 Altima, so I am very familiar with the amazing VQ motor.

What are the differences among the years?
Are there any major problems I should look out for??, I know for Acura TLs they had a major transmission recall for the second gens ... thank god my third gen has been okay till now ... something along those lines ... i know the VQ's are known for burning oil in the Altima ... is it the same in the G?
I would like to get a 6mt with navi ... is that a hard find?
What price should I expect to pay??

thanks all, and I hope to formally join the community in the near future

regards,
Vijay

Hey, welcome to the forum! the coupe is only practical if its just you and one other person thats gonna be using it. Hauling anyone (or anything) else requires the sedan. I love my sedan becuase its quick and it handles great. Plus, the sedans are LIGHTER than the coupes. the 03-04 model is going from anywhere from 16-19K and the 05-06 is going from 19-23K.

You can't haul too much with a sedan either. The trunk will fit about 3 golf bags and two big bowling bags...

I can't tell you what to look out for in the 02, but the differences between the years are in the motors as well as the aesthetic trims of the cars.

The 03-04 G35 sedan came with 260HP. The 05-06 came with 280HP, new taillights, refreshed interior, and some additonal features. AWD was offered as the "X" model for 04+. Sport models and manual models offered stiffer suspsension, bigger wheels and a VLSD. http://www.infinitihelp.com and http://www.nissannews.com will give you detailed specs of each model.

As for the oil burning issue, it seems to be with the manual transmission models only, mostly the 05-06 sedan, and 05-07 coupe models that came with the rev-up VQ35. So if you are thinking of getting a manual make sure you get the car checked out, and the car had a good maintenance record, regular oil changes etc.. so if you ever need to go to Infiniti for a new engine, you have proof the car wasnt neglected.

The G35 is a great car and is an excellent competitor for the TL except RWD>FWD

thanks for the replies ... i am actually considering the sedan more than the coupe, and preferably a manual, most likely a 2004, for some reason i don't like the refresh that much in the 2005 and 2006 ... is this normal for people to like the care before the refresh??? ... or am i just wierd?

nah man its totally your opinion. Alot of people like the older styling and some dont, its all personal opinion. The main diffrence is the 05-06 offered more features and more HP (but people say its overrated anyway), 298 HP in the manual model. To me I like the way the 03-04 tail lights look but I love everything else about the 05-06. The changes brought me towards purchasing an 05.

Hi everyone, a thought just crossed my mind while i was searching around for used G's ... if u were in my shoes although since I'm on a G forum the answer may be a little biased ... should I move up to a 2006 Nissan Altima SE-R 6 spd ... or 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan RWD 6 spd ... i could probably get them both for around 18k - 20k ... so what do u guys think?

my opinon is to get the G. It's RWD, sport luxury sedan, and really..whats is the point of upgrading from an altima to a newer altima. I think the G has a lot more of the grown man look. Regardless, I am biased because I love my 04. The exterior styling sucks IMO until you throw on the nismo/aero kit. That's just my opinon but others will tell you otherwise. Go for the G!

the Altima SE-R is a toy. the G is serious buisiness. and the potential for the G is tremendous, just take a look at the gallery.

G35 for sure..the Altima SE-R is a sweet looking ride.. but the RWD>FWD. Right there is the kicker, RWD is what defines "sports sedan". In terms of speed the SE-R isnt all that faster than the SE and i dont think its faster than the G35. G35 definitley can out handle them. Coming from the altima community its actually said the fastest altimas built were the 2002 SE 5-speeds which you own.

go 03.5 since the doggie door was removed, the only thing I dont like about my sedan is that the back seats dont fold down. Oh well that why the wife has an SUV. 03's seem to eat up brakes, I updated my rotors and pads and have seen a world of difference
