Agreed on that, altho I find the Bimmers boring to look at--no 'pazzaz'. The g's have it hands down in that department and coupled with gordgee's point on reliability, and having a nice level of performance (if not the best) these cars are one heck of a deal.
I'll concede that the point on the 'shine' waring off (for C/D)after comparing and using the Sedan for a few months last summer, is a valid one.

C&D has been into "controversy" since the '60s, but that is their style. Personally, I can't take the magazine seriously.

Don't forget that Road&Track compared 11 sport sedans, including the 330i, A4, and TL-S, and put the G35 first based on value. Disregarding price, the G35 placed second to the 330i, 387 vs. 380, not a big difference considering part of the points is based on subjective evaluations.

That's a good point on the subjective e's. Gosh that's doing something to almost tie a 330i: To be proud of for sure, and when the price is factored in , the choice is obvious. Only variable in this whole subject is reliability. Looks favourable, but time will tell............

I don't find BMW's styling "boring" just easy to ignore because they're so common. Although the new 7s and Z4s certainly are consciously trying to be different. There's something to be said for standing out in a crowd. The G's value, performance and reliability were the deciding factors for me.

I liked the 330i very much. It was a close call for me. The choice actually came down to things like rear seat room (and the fact that they recline), cd player and Nav unit co-existing in the dash, and cupholders that aren't blocked by the armrest. The performance differences are too close to call, IMO. At least, not without a couple years of track experience under your belt, which I don't yet have.

Agreed, but these cars are all pretty good. You are going to have to find the one that's the best fit for you. the 330 is afine automobile, but I needed something a little bigger ( 6' 3" and have two growing boys). I was looking at 530's E-320's and A-6's as well as the TL. Far and away the best value with room for 4 was the G35. The fact that it will blow the doors off any sedan anything less than 40 Grand came as side benefit. I still think driving school is in my future, just so I can live to talk about how cool this car is!

G35/S/MT....this car rocks!

Amazing how these mags change their tune. I heavily researched the Altima (which I thought I was buying), and several of the mags panned it after initially raving about it.
I guess when you become yesterday's news the reviewers move on to something else.
Screw 'em. We know which car is the best bang for the buck, and the funnest to drive. Join the minions already driving Beemers and freaking Hondas! Not me.
