2003 Production Numbers

Hey guys,

Does anyone have the production numbers/statistics for 2003 G35's? I am trying to figure out how many base sedans were made in 2003, and what color combinations were available. If anyone knows where I can find such statistics, it would be very helpful.

Also, does anyone know if they made a 2004 or 2003.5 base sedan, or if they discontinued the base models after early 2003. To clarify, when I say base model I mean no leather, no power seats, no heated seats, no sunroof, no nav, no bose, automatic, and 16 inch rims. If you want pics, PM me or check out my cardomain. The base sedan reatiled at 27-28k when new compared to about 30k+ for models with leather, 17's, etc.

Thanks!

I know they made an 03.5 in the base with cloth, no moonroof, etc. I have a friend at work with one.

Pretty sure your going to have a hard time at finding these numbers published since they are essentially...useless. Sales numbers are where it's at, but even though generally wont go into much detail.

Why do you need to this info anyways? Trying to figure out how special you are because you have the shell of a luxury car?

Nope they made base with out sunroof and leather,no audio controls on the steering wheel in 03 only, 03.5 had everything standard sunroof leather and all the other great things. unless your friend has some special ordered 03.5 base version.

Haha, I am happy I have the shell of a luxury car! I just want to know becasue apparently this car is special, and it's lighter than a normal G35. I don't mind at all that my car lacks many of the features of normal G35 sedans. The 05/06 loaners I get from the dealership seem incredibly slow compared to my car.

have you ever weighed it? My guess is probably around 3200-3300lbs? Have you ever ran it at the track when it was stock?

They did make the base in 2003.5, but no dealer stocked it or would order it since there's no money in it. I saw one cloth model at the dealer on the floor inside when I got mine (no doggy door), but it wasn't for sale.

Heck, if you were in Japan, you coulda had a 2.5L 6cyl (250GT/VQ25DD), the 3.0L 300GT (VQ30DD), or the 350GT-8 (VQ35DE) with the CVT-M8 tranny and paddle shifters.

2003 G35 - 3,336 (Base)/3,369 (Leather)
2006 G35 - 3,449

113lbs difference...If I recall correctly, for every 100lbs shaved you can get up to 0.2 saved in the 1/4 mile? So I highly doubt a 05/06 base loaner is "incredibly slow compared to" a base 2003 with nothing...also theres is the 20 extra HP on the 05/06, but I know that extra 20 HP is debatable...

It's not as light as you think it is. A friend of mine has a base and his weighs 3,290lbs (1/2 tank of fuel, 20lbs of gear) on the Cat truck scale and my 03 with 1/2 tank, 40lbs gear, moonroof, power seats, reclining rear seats, 17" rims, and Bose weighs in at 3,350lbs.

Interesting. I'm sure that not all 05/06's are that light, the loaners do feel slower. Maybe it's becasue I have some small mods coupled with my lower weight. It's not much, but it does make a difference. The other thing is that all 2003 models weights Ive found on the web are listed as "coupe base" or "sedan base". I don't know if base is the leather model or if it's my car. I've actually spent some time trying to find the specs for mine, but it's difficult. I don't know which is which.

Unfortunately I have not been able to run my car at the track nor have I had it weighed. I'm sure that people on this forums frown on running other cars on the street, but it's the only comparison I have. My friend has an 05 300c that runs a 14.5@96.5 (he has 20's) and I beat him by about 2 cars from 20-90 and two and a half to 90ish from a stop. I also pulled a car and a half from 40 to 100 on an 05 MT g35 sedan when I only had a z-tube and an air filter. These were people I know, and I don't really do much street racing so that's all I have. I hope to dyno after some maintenance, gordgee's grounding wires, an l-spec tune ecu mod from technosquare, and a switch to an 05/06 sedan mid-pipe. Getting weighed might be something that I will be able to do soon. I will look into local places where I can do that.

yeah i think ~3300 lbs would be about right probably for your base 2003. I would guess low 14s for quarter mile with optimal conditions considering your weight and mods. I ran a 14.7 with 80 degree/high humidity heat in the middle of the summer in my 2005.

I weighed my car on a truck scale nearby and it came out to 3500lbs even (scale rounds to the nearest 10lbs). I have a stock fully loaded RWD sport model with 18s. Ive never driven an early model so i cant compare.

And IIRC they say its 0.1-0.2 seconds off 1/4 ET for every 100lbs of weight.
