Not sure if I want to buy a G35 now!!

What is the deal with the G35 and the oil consumption problem I hear about in this forum? I want to get a used G35 with no warranty, and I am worried about the engine going out. Give me some advice on this sub ject?

don't understand why you wouldn't buy a 2 or 3 year old g with average miles and still be covered under warranty. to get a car without warranty, you will need to purchase a car that has was delivered over six years ago and have mileage over 70k. is that what you are looking for? otherwise, a used g will still be covered under factory powertrain warranty.

i have no problem at all with my engine...

but i may not be a good point of reference. have only owned for 49 months w/23k miles. it is not necessarily a global problem, but more or less a specific problem. nothing a monthly oil check can't prevent (which is a part of preventative maintenance anyway).

I have read that too. However, i can tell you that my motor consumes NO oil and it sees upper rpms often. No sure why others are having issues. EVERY car you will look at buying will have its own problems, no matter the make. This motor is known to run 200+ K miles if taken care of. I wish you luck with whatever car you decide to get, G or not.

i know 06's were 6 year 70k miles, i'm fairly certain 05's were the same. anyone confirm?

i spoke with my service manager about this issue, and his belief was that many of the consumption issues may be caused by owners switching to synthetic oil before the rings had the opportunity to seat properly. anyone have an opinion on this?

03-04's were 4yr/60k miles (or so, maybe 64k - i'm not sure because that did not apply to me @ 23k). that would make any 03, 03.5 and early 04's or higher mileage 04's out of warranty, and an attractive buy.

i just bought a 2003 sedan (well, 4 or 5 months ago), i've still 60000km to go on the factory warranty, (or until next august).
basically the only way you will find one off warranty will be because of mileage, and i don't think you want to be buying a high mileage car.
the oil consumption problems seem to be limited to the '05 and '06 models, and usually manifested quickly (within first few thousand miles), if the car is at 30 or 40k km and is not consuming excessive oil, it's not likely that it will.

Had no problems with my g, bought it 3 years old and am up to 35k on it now. Not quite sure you want to get it with no warranty, unless buying used and past that mark. You can get a used one for just a little bit more still under warranty, than one thats not. Don't necessarily worry about the engine oil problem that some experience. I had a cd player issue, which Infiniti took care of completely. Nothing wrong with the g's, just consider like you would anything else, a little money now will mean a lot more in the long run. Spend the extra 50-100 its saving you a month to get an out of warranty g and anything that comes up will be fixed for another couple years, well worth the little cost in the meantime.

Not sure if I want to buy a G35 now

The G35 I want to get is a 2003 with 49000 miles. I can get it for $15000 out the door. I am looking for a car that is a little used for work and don't want to spend more money. I just hope I don't have any major engine problems!
