well i've heard the oil consumption is for the rev up engines. also remember that you're going to hear the problems more often than the 100,000 non complaints. I drive my car like an animal and have no problems with oil consumption

Um, I think you guys are talking about two different warranties here. Speedracer mentioned the POWERTRAIN warranty being 6 yrs/70k miles, not the basic warranty, which is 4 yrs/60k miles. Powertrain covers the engine, transmission/transaxle, drivetrain, restraint system (airbags), OEM battery, and refrigerant recharge.

Here's the warranty info for 2003's http://www.infiniti.com/pdf/ownershi...ranty_2003.pdf Scroll down to page 3.

4 year 60k mile bumper to bumper and 6 year 70k mile powertrain 15K for a G with that amount of mileage is a pretty good deal and not bad for resale considering the car is about 5 years old and still retaining %50 of it's value.

Oil leak not a pandemic!

I think you're seeing isolated incidents and may be magnifying the issue-- i.e., 10 cars with oil leaks out of 5000 cars is not a pandemic of oil leaks. The G35 engine is rated as one of the best car engines in the world for the past several years by Wards. You'll also find isolated incidents of oil sludge on the Lexus models and many Toyotas and a host of other issues with most cars; but, the frequency is so low as to not be statistically significant. Buy with confidence, the G35 is an exceptional car with typical noises, rattles and problems like all cars, but less frequently (except for the brakes and audio system). Good luck!

Not to worry, I just got mine and am asking simple questions, being told to read previous posts before I post a question that's been answered 45 times and then being welcomed after a noogie from those that have been here awhile. Enjoy your ride!

the oil consumption issue is really only apparent in the rev-up motors. 05+ 6spd Gs.

If you're looking at an automatic model you shouldn't really be worried, and if its '03-'04 6spd really no need to worry either. Issue is a lot more apparent with the rev-ups.

If I was you I would stay as far as possible from used g. It is a great car but the oil problems are just ridiculous. If I am not covered by warranty I would not risk it. I've had 2 brand new G's an 06 and now 07. 06 got engine replaced at 8000 miles and new engine was'nt better because I added 2 quarts to it between oil changes before I got rid of it. My 07 went to the dealer today and guess what it will get new engine. Only 4000 miles on it ant that is after doing the consumption test for almost 2000.

You must have the worst luck in the world bro. I have 2 3.5's and neither one touch a drop of oil.

05s are 4 year 60K Bumper to Bumper and 6 year 70K Engine+Drivetrain. I bought an 05 that was put into service in May of 2005 which was late in the model year so that I would have a longer balance left over on the warranty (until May of 2009 and 60K on the Bumper to Bumper, I bought the car with ~30K on it a month ago).

Make sure you do a carfax check which tells you when the car was put into service and pick one with a good balance of time/miles left on the warranty.
