Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
This has been asked before, but here's my question. When I hit redline in manual mode, I was under the impression that the gearbox shifted automatically too avoid stress too the transmission? In my car when I hit redline it just bounces off redline until I shift up? This just occurred too me as I was reading previous threads on the subject, with different answers. Some people said it shifts automatically, others said it just bounces till it's shifted manually..which is it?
Re: Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
I thought it down shifted automatically but not up shift, not tried the latter out but mine hits redline and just bounces off to.

Re: Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
Thanks mate, you've just answered my question. Mine downshifts automatically but bounces off redline on upshift. I was reading previous threads and because the sedan & coupe have different gearbox mannerisms it was a tad confusing.
Re: Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
You are correct. I was on the freeway last month. I was in manual (auto) mode, just checking it out. All of a sudden the car in front of me died in the fast lane. I came to a safe stop along with everyone behind me as it was about 4 pm & very sunny day. I waited about an eternity to switch to the next lane. I punched it I found myself redlining in FIRST GEAR!
By the time I realized I was still in manual mode, I pushed it into the next gear & slammed it into auto. I thought I fryed my engine due to the fact that I had only 500 Mi. It smelled pretty bad for a few miles but I did learn a lesson.
This has been weighing heavy on my shoulders of embarrassment so thanks for letting me find the opportunity to confess my sin.
My car doesn't seem to remember the incident so nether do I.

Anytime Andy, well as were telling our sins then I will reveal why I know....took the car for a test drive and the salesman told me to try out the manual mode so I said ok, took it around a few turns and came to a stop sign.....forgot to down shift totaly but then took off from the stop and didn't change gears and yep bounce ...bounce and bounce.
You should have seen the look on the salesmans face as he shouted at me to shift up. Needless to say I bought the car but not the one I test drove in....haha.

Re: Maunaul mode in 04 sedan?
Lol..so it's not just me then? Funnily enough I've owned several clutchless manuals inc. BMW, Chrysler 300M & VW Passat, but the one in the G sedan has the strangest mannerisms. My fave, though I hate too admit, was in my 300M (not a car I'd rave about), but it had the Merc derived tapshift.
