G 35 Gas Mileage

I have a G-35 sedan with approximately 6500 miles. I bought the car used with 5200 miles.

I notice that the gas mileage is very poor, not near the stated mileage per the spec's. I'm averaging about 12 city and 18 highway, without driving the car too hard.

Is there a test that the dealership can perform to test the gas mileage? Or is there anyway a dealership can check the car out to ensure no problems on gas mileage exist? your suggestions and comments are appreciated.

Neal

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

My last car Dodge Intrepid was rated for 19city and 26 highway. I got an avg of 21.x in a mix of driving. My G35 has the same rating but I am avg 17 in the same mix of driving.

I have to admit I am pretty heavy on the pedal...

Another factor is that when they do that rating they drive the car continuously and that is the miles per gallon. What I mean is if you start up the car and warm it for a few minutes and then drive a mile to the convenience store and back there is no way you are going to get anywhere near those EPA ratings.

My avg day is 20miles each way to work off hour commute 6:30am in and 3pm out of the city. Then at night 5 to 10 miles in suburban driving.

But it is interesting that a smaller lighter car gets worse mileage in the same driving condition. I love the Nissan 3.5's power but some of that power is obviously at the expense of fuel economy. Which is okay for me I like the power.

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

Yes gas mileage is something not one of the positives of G35.
I get about 17mph mixed driving and about 20-21mph if its only highway.

Ouch. I get average 20 with mixed city and highway driving, mostly city. 340-360 a tank is norm.

Sounds like there is something wrong but usually if there is something wrong you get a check engine light... either that or you are doing a lot of short trips and warming the car up for a long time..

Are you?

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I was getting around 15 mpg, short drive daily to work with the Auto AC turn on at all time. After I turn off everytime I stop, gas mileage is getting better. I was getting 24 mpg when I went to orlando.

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I'm getting about 1 MPG improvement after I turn A/C too. I'm averaging about 19.2 ~ 20.2 on 12 miles from my 1 way trip to work with 4 miles local and 8 miles Freeway. I don't drive it hard, only occasionally when I'm feeling it. I live in the foothills, To work, 85% down hill, Back Home 85% up hills.

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I averaged about 17.4 for the first 6k on my car. Then I installed the Stillen CAI and the Z-Tube and then I got about 19.8. I thought, wow. So I installed the HyperGound kit 6 of 7 wires on now and odd thing is that I got about 14.7. I thought it was a heavy foot thing, but I know it isn't. So I reset my ECU and I think its back to normal (17+). I'm half way through the tank and will give you an update when I refill.

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I get 20 in town, and 23-25 on the highway at 27000 miles now. I am very heavy on the foot, cruise the interstate at 80-85 mph and cruise on the state road highways at 70-75 mph. I have a 6MT, removed resonator, custom intake midpipe, grounding kit (6 wire)

Don't forget that the temperature where you live plays a big role in gas consumption. I think 2 minutes warm up in the morning helps the gas mileage too.

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

do you think if i install the hyper ground wire kit 6 wires on my automatic it will help increase the gas mileage?

or do you feel it won't help at all?

thanks

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I get between 22 and 23.5 on the high end, and 20 - 22 on the low end in my 6mt (factory body kit, NO spoiler!). Be interesting to see if the body kit and / or spoiler affects gas milage? And I've got it set to A/C Econ all the time.

My commute is about 17 miles, mostly highway (little traffic). I tend to have a heavy foot on the on-ramp and sometimes in traffic before I hit the interstate, but I usually try to stick it on cruise for most of the commute (if those left-lane slugs decide to stay home). I drive through the nastiest speed trap in WA every day on the way to work, so 68 is the max. =)

Re: G 35 Gas Mileage

I average about 19.8 mpg when driving half and half of city/highway. A couple of weeks ago I drove from Phx Az to San Diego CA and my speed was about 90 to 95. I averaged on that trip 22.3. I then drove AGAIN from Phx Az to Anaheim CA and I drove the speed limit this time, and let me tell you, that 75 mph really makes a difference. My 22.3 mpg changed to 26.3 mpg. That is an increase of 4 mpg. It may not sound like alot to some of you, but to me that is a huge difference. From now on, I am sticking this car in cruise control at the speed limit.
