05 brake squeal, anyone had luck fixing?

I have an 05 sedan, and the brakes started squealing often about a year ago. I've taken it to the dealer many times to have the brakes checked, each time they say everything is fine. I asked about the constant brake squeal. They said its a known issue with the car, but its not a safety issue, so its not covered under warranty and they wont do anything about it. I am now out of warranty due to mileage anyways.

my question to you other 05 sedan owners with brake squeal is: have you had any luck with getting rid of the squeal with a BBK? Would a simple rotor swap fix the issue?

Thanks for any input anyone might have.

I searched but didnt find any resolutions, maybe I just suck at searching.

I think a majority have suffered the same issue - brake squeal. People have gone with aftermarket pads as a solution. You have your choice of going with Hawk HPS, Stillen Metal Matrix, Project Mu, Endless Vita Nuova.

I have used Hawks HPS and my brakes still squealed more than a [racially charged comment removed to appease other forum members that are politically correct - to view comment, look at post below that is quoted] ( almost as bad as OEM).

I recently went with Endless Vita Nuova, based on the reviews and recommendations of other members, and they have turned out to be GREAT!

Minimal dusting, NO squeal, and they have great initial cold bite and I haven't experienced brake fade. The Endless Vita Nuova were expensive (~$94.05 a set) but well worth it IMHO. You can get it from www.mynismo.com - ask for Eddie Takahashi....he will take good care of you. Last time I checked, they had quiet a few of those pads on hand. Also, you will need to use your old shims from the OEM pads. PM me if you have questions.

Is it really necessary for you to make that comment?

This is a public discussion forum, and even racial or discriminatory comments like that have no place in such a forum. Please think before you speak next time you decide to make a constructive post or reply.

OK - since I don't want to offend anyone...I have changed my comment.

I guess all those years hearing that stuff toughed my skin some and I just started rolling with the punches

The Hawk HPS pads fixed my problem. My car honestly was embarrassing to drive. It was horrible. I swaped the pads myself (my rotors had 20k miles or so.)
I have honeslty not heard 1 peep from the brakes since and the performance does not feel jeopardized at all.

Gotta figure the other comment was going to get a bit of attention on a site dedicated to an asian car.

I changed my pads to HBC "Green Stuff" and now I wonder why. Sure they work great, but they are eating up the rotors at a higher rate than the stock pads.

The stock pads did not squeal, vibrate, or make dust. They had hardly ANY wear after 25,000 miles and the rotors had a mirror finish. I did it to get a bit more bite and I really didn't need to. The stock brakes are damn good.

I have a 2005 MT6 sedan with "sport" suspension.

I changed to Axxis Metal Matrix pads, they were quiet and stopped the car very well. But they did eat the rotors some. So at 50K miles I went with Burtman industries rotors and the pads they supply. The pads are from Akebono. No squeal, smooth straight stops every time and, BONUS, ne slight jerk just before final stop, like from 1 MPH to 0 MPH. Even my wife's BMW Z4 does this.

BTW, if forgot to ask, have you tried any of the "Stop Squeal" type products for the back of the pads?

Hey esfoad,

How are your Burtman rotors holding up? Do you have any rusting issues with those rotors?

I've heard good things about the Endless Vita Nuova. I'm going with them next, probably this summer.

Not yet. So far they are looking great but the winter is about to start so we'll see how thay hold up to the salt etc. They also are showing no wear on the rotors. I just hit 57K miles so about 7K miles on these brakes.

This is good news then. The R1Concept rotors that some of us here bought as part of a group buy started to rust the first week I got it (rained during the week). Any part that did not have pad contact developed rust - looked pretty awful. Might have to look into your rotors when mine go.

Thanks for letting me know.
