Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

Ok I did some testing on the road this morning - I could not get it to auto down shift while in the "3" position.

It did downshift to "1" when I came to a stop or very close to a stop.

I also tried it in "2" and it wouldnt auto downshift.

Mine does shift up in the 6600-6800 range in auto mode - great fun - roasted a camaro looking thing this morning while playing around.

Mine also immediatley shifts up (and down) in manualamatico mode when I click it up - at any RPM, any gear in well under a second.

This is different from how to came out of the box, but one of the things my ECU changes fixed.

Let me know if you want more details or try something else - driving is fun.

Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

The confusion is caused by the change in the Manumatic with the 2004 model sedan. The 04 behaves differently than the 03. Many are not aware of this. Please post your model year when posting to avoid confusion.

2003/sedan/5a/t=Borla dual ex.sys/ K/N & Typhoon/ Z-xtreme
7 wire grounding kit .
Advised by DaveO, Did all Resets,& Rev.Limit moved to 7100
-7200 rpm. In the Man.Mode My G35 shift after 6800rpm. In
Manual I bump the limit at 7200! My next add on is a 350 EVO
throttle body, then the T.S. ecu up grade(DaveO again=
my hero!) Like the autocross guy's i use 2nd gear along time
in traffic.

Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

twylight,

then the 04's must be different. Tat's great, b/c I can't get a dyno of my car on the entire rpm range becasue it downshifts at WOT on the 3rd gear. I wonder if it is possible to get the 04 TCM onto the 03 car for it to behave the same way. Does anyone know if the tranny's have the same part number?

Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

Hey guys

Great news for the early 03 guys (sedans at least). just talked with the Parts dept of a local inifinti dealer. The TCm (the shift control unit) that sits next tot he ecu (very easy to change) IS different in our cars. There are actually 4 different prn numbers (31036-AL000 through *****-AL004). The AL004 is what's currently used on the 04 sedans. The good news that the older PN's are superceded by the new ones. So if the 04 sedans do not downshift (guys please confirm this) than we can actually swap in the new TCm's into our cars. They are expensive though - $601.51 retail and $511.35 wholesale.

Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

Why would I expect my trans to d-shift for me when I am in manual mode? If I'm driving down the road in 4th & I need to jam, I always push the lever back a gear & punch it. Then I nudge it back into 4th. If I want the car to decide for me, I leave it in auto.

Re: At what rpm do you shift in auto?

I tested my stock 2003.5 G sedan this afternoon and here is what I discovered. If I am in 3 or 4 at around 2,000 rpm and punch the accelerator, the car downshifts to give me the acceleration I am asking for. So for my car at least, no matter what gear I am in (other than 1st) the car will downshift when the throttle calls for it.

This was my experience today.

Great point Geezer. I feel the same way. I have an '03 sedan and I like the way the transmission is set up.

For best performance I shift at redline. When cruising, I shift at low RPM to make the car go smooth.

As far as downshifting as Gurgenpb asked, in 04 sedan you have to downshift by yourself otherwise you stay in the same gear. When I'd like to be in control I switch to MM, when I dont feel like it I put in AUTO.
