proper way 2 shift the trip tronic?

sorry guys noob question lol...what is the proper way to shift? shift it over into manual mode and just listen for the rpms to get close to redline and shift it up? while doing this is it proper to release the accelerator? or maintain foot on accelerator?

I take it you've never driven a manual before. When in manual mode on our cars, you want to shift when it "feels" right. No need to go to redline unless you are trying to race something (I hope at a track). I usually shift around 4500 for 1st, 4200 for 2nd, 3500 3rd, etc. No set shift point, you just do it when the engine feels like it needs a higher gear. And don't let off the accelerator; the tranny is designed to shift even though you are giving it gas.

also.. 1st to 2nd gear engagement is allowed at about @ 5 mph.. to 3rd gear, engagement is @15... 4th is @ 25... and 5th is @ 35... so that can give you a point of what speed you can shift at... same would go for downshift... if you let it go any lower, the downshift rev matching will take over..

if you were to go with RPM's as your guide to engage the next gear, 3,000 to 3,500 RPMs would suffice without being wasteful on gas

There's no need to lift the accelerator. The proper way is maintain or accelerate while you shift up or down.

i guess it depends on road conditions.. cuz i was on a slight downhill on the way to texas and hit 140 at the end of 4th...

and 3rd took me easily past 100.. might not have been 110 but easily in the triple digits..

110mph in 3rd is not possible with the 5AT, especially the more deeply geared G35X (uses the 6MT rear gear). 3rd on the 5AT RWD is good for about 102mph. I've run numerous times at the strip and I hold 3rd the entire run and I tap the 3rd gear rev limiter (6800rpm indicated, 6600rpms actual) just after crossing the finishing line. My trap speeds are in the 99-100mph range. Since the last 60' of the run is your average speed and your reported trap speed, that means that my speed right at the traps is 101-102mph.
