A TSB has finally been issued to address the oil consumption issue.

Right now it's only for Nissan but there should be one for Infiniti soon

Nissan releases TSB NTB07-088: 2005- 2006 350Z: Engine Oil Level Is Low

Released: 11/27/07

Applied Vehicles: 2006 350Z (Z33) with M/T: 2005 350Z (Z33) Track and 35th Anniversary Edition with M/T

Good news for oil consuming engines, after 2 years of fighting with the dealer and NNA. NNA finally released a Technical Service Bulletin that will now take only a visit to the dealer to record an oil fill (top off) plus one more visit maybe two, for a look up on the Oil Consumption Chart to determine if the engine is to be replaced at the dealer level. In the past their was this long agonizing painful process of arguing with the dealer and NNA to accept responsibility of a mechanical defect in the engine, that 1 qt per 1k mi was unacceptable. Today the dealers have a guidelines set forth for all dealers to comply with, not to mention we now have the same chart.

Basically the TSB is if the engine is consuming more than 2mm below the top of the “H” crosshatch mark within 0-500 miles from an dealer recorded” check and refill oil level”, or an “oil and filter change”, the engine will be replaced (may need two recordings) with the V2 part # 10102-AC7MZ. No more hassles, no more ignorant dealers saying “It’s normal to consume 1 qt per every 3k mi oil intervals”.

Ok, now in layman terms:
Oil level is >1/8 qt (3mm) low, car has 2k mi on current oil change.
Have dealer confirm the reading and document on your file, dealer tops off oil and tells you to come back in 1k mi.
500 mi later you check it and its >1/8 qt low, take it to dealer to confirm reading and your engine will be replaced. It’s that simple.

Congrats to everyone waiting in the wings hoping their OC will reach what used to be the standard 1qt per 1ki miles for an engine replacement, can now line up Monday morning at their dealer with this TSB in hand and get an engine replaced.

Good News for All !

i'm new to this whole consumption rate but i'm assuming 1/2 qt is normal after 4,500 miles (running synthetic), right? just had my last oil change this weekend and the invoice stated 1/2 qt low. i'm assuming 1/2 qt is not going to do any extensive damage but i'll keep a closer eye ever couple of weeks.

I go through .5 QTS every 1k so that is 1.5QTS between oil changes.
I had always complained but that fell on deaf ears and stated to be normal operation.

At least now there will be officially something in the books instead of dealers just pushing us and finding any excuse not to service our cars.

I would say that's just a bit high, but acceptable. Mine uses about 4oz in 7200 miles.

I'm using a quart every 1000 miles .

I've spoke to my dealer, they are concerned. My course of action is as follows:

-Mobil 1 SuperSyn Oil Change (done by dealer)
-Come back once every 1k miles for 3k miles total (3 trips) intervals to check/top off oil and so they can note it on my file.
-If, in fact, the car is consuming (it is, they are just covering the bases), hello new engine.

Is this only going to cover the 2005+ "rev up" motors?

Looks like it since they tend to consume more. I think it would be a good guideline to fight for yours if it meets the same conditions.

I burn ~1-1.5 qts every 3k but I am TT so they won't replace mine anyway...

A TT, or any boost/NOS for that matter causes extra heat and stress on the motor which can cause oil burning issues. It is not their fault that I am using the motor beyond the intended use. No prob, that's why I'm building it soon anyway.

This is obviously a problem as some cars do it & others don't so the ones that do is not normal? My 03 ate oil & my 05 uses almost nothing, running syn.

Great Im gonna have to pay more attention to my levels now. I check mine but never really thought about it using to much oil. I just hope that they dont want to drain my amsoil 0w-30 and put in there stuff to do the overall check since i just changed it not to long ago.

Congrats....to those who fought for this....

I have been reading your guys plight for almost 2 years now....

Hopefully Infiniti/Nissan will make sure this kind of thing is dealt with promptly...

Especially with the new Nissan GTR coming to the US in June.
