Why is AC always on!?

Perfect Example

Temp outside is 34 degrees and I turn on Auto Temp control to 78 degrees and the A/C light comes on. Why can I not run Temp Control w/o A/C comming on??

Good question. I always have to hit Auto, then I hit A/C to turn it off. My mom's '07 Maxima does it as well, but the A/C turns itself off after about 5 minutes...Weird. Sorry not much help, but interested as well.

A/C helps extract humidity from the air so your windows don't fog up.

Edit: Try searching, there have been many a thread about this.

^^ Exactly, it's a common misconception that air conditioning is only used to cool the air.

^^ +1 very true. Think of it as a regulater more than a cooling factor.

If you're air is circulating, then the A/C stays on.

People with fogged windows in the winter don't have a car as smart as the G.

yeah i always wonder as well, the first day i got my G, whomever owned it before me, left it on full blast A/C, I later realize I wasn't getting hot air at 35 degree, but cold a/c air.

I hate that fact about the recirc air on the G. Stupid idea from a company who makes cars for high humidity and cold areas.

EXACTLY!! I've owned several other Japanese cars, none of which required the A/C to be on for the air to recirculate. WTF? And the BS about humidity and fogging windows.....there is very little humidity in AZ!!!

I remember my salesman telling me something to the effect of if its cooler outside then inside you can turn the econo on and it pulls the cooler air outside so you dont use the ac.

also

I don't need to spend major bucks on extra gas or listen to the damn loud *** fans running to deal with smogged windows. Once you figure out how to turn the A/c off(which took me about 10 pokes at the ac button while trying to use the heater on auto) try using the heater on manual or other wise while trying to circulate air from inside the car (you know the warmer air?) instead of outdise sub 30 degree air...........impossible, can't be done. It's just another long list of BS this car has made me generate. Never again, as soon as I get some equity this puppy is gone!!!!!!!!

Some of you guys are under the misconception that just because the A/C light is on, that the compressor is in use and it's cooling the incoming air. The compressor has a clutch in it that disengages when cold air is not needed. If the climate control system is set to a higher temperature than the temp sensor detects, then it's warming the air and the compressor is not running... so it's not wasting gas at all.

Some people get so worked up because the AC automatically comes on.
