G35 & G35x performance???

Currently trying to decide which way to go.
The benefits of the X for winter driving are appealing yet....
I'm not sure if I want to take the performance hit with the extra weight.
Anyone seen any performance comparsons between the two.

The way I see it, AWD will really help you out in the Winter, snow..etc....AWD system was designed for that purpose.. As far as the comparison between the 2 G, I will go for the 6mt. That'll save you some cash and weigth...

There was a post I think a month ago. Someone found in Autoweek. I think 0-60 times were the same. Can't remember the 1/4 times. Do a search. I live in a hilly area and get a good amount of snow so I opted for the X.

X-Man is correct. The numbers were the same even with the extra 300 lbs. It depends on your preferences concerning sport and luxury. First, you can't get the X in a 6 speed. Second, you can't get the Sport Package (stiffer suspension). Today I got a loaner car from Infiniti (3000 mile oil change). It drives just like the X. The advantage to having the X is definitely the AWD. It really kicks butt in the snow. I also noticed if you are waiting to make a turn at a stop light and have to get going, a rear wheel car can spin the tires easily. When I'm waiting to make a turn and I have to get across the street quickly the front wheels grab and send the car across the street in a blink of an eye. Note: I almost always drive with the VCD turned off.

If it's a G it's 4 me!

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

thanks guys.. I'm leaning to the x, especially since I have to
go with the auto trany due to a bum left knee....

I had heard that times were similar, but was concerned that likely means gearing has changed.
Has anyone noticed if the x runs out of pull in the top end?
How is highway cruising at higher revs.
It just doesn't seem logical that you could add 300 pounds without some sacrifices.

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

The AWD is good for launches since it has more intial grip, but will be more of a hinderance at high speeds. So maybe that is why the G35x and the regular auto has the same or similar 0-60 times. The added weight of 300 lbs. is offset by the fact that the 'x' gets better tracation at the launch.

Yes I also can feel and know about the great launch's the X has. An Acura Integra Type-R (ricey) car pulled next to me at the bottom of a hill and when the light changed, all he did was spin his tires, and my X was gone, no tire spin. I love the X, as I'm frequently up in the mountains getting my skiing on..

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

The G35x pulls hard into triple figures. Hell of a lot faster then my BMW 323i did. The car is most comfortable driving at 80 MPH on the highway. I think it gets it’s best gas mileage at that speed too.

Nope, the X's only come with the regular suspension. I'm sure one could swap it out with the sport suspension parts though if they wanted to.

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

The front suspension is different due to the AWD so if I remember correctly, the sport suspension will not fit.

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

Two things: the sport suspension will not fit, because the X front suspension is from the FX. Also, no fit for current aftermarket parts, until they make them specifically for the X; second, the suspension on the X is slightly stiffer than the AT sedan, because they put in bigger sway bars and stiffer suspension bits to handle the additional weight. I had felt that the AT suspension was a little soft, with too much body roll and the sport suspension cornered flat, but you could feel every road imperfection. I was planning on putting in sways, but when I got my X, I found the suspension to be right in-between the AT and the SS; just about perfect.

Re: G35 & G35x performance???

Buy the April copy of Automobile magazine (the one with the three ugly concept SUVs on the cover). They have a great comparison of the G35S 5AT vs the G35x in the guise of discussing the value of AWD cars and cover every performance number (under good and bad traction conditions) back-to-back, and the G35x does very well. If you want I can type up the numbers for you this evening...

'02 Acura MDX Touring in Redrock Pearl/Saddle with wood bits, cargo stuff
