Wait, this article is dated March 2004, are you sure it's the same one? There was an earlier article "10 Best" and the G35 Coupe was on top there.

Re: Guess who's #1
I've had that issue for quite a while now... I think the TL probably would have won except it's wrong wheel drive... other than that it's a really nice car. I test drove one just for fun

Re: Guess who's #1
The article says the bimmer would have won if it was a 330. Car And Driver loves the bimmer. Thats why it came in 2nd even though it lacks the power.

Re: Guess who's #1
I believe the TL would have won if the "Fun to Drive" and/or "Gotta Have It Factor" was taken out. Just straight performance numbers would have given the TL the top spot.

Um... "Fun to drive" is a HUGE part of it for me. I don't mind taking out price or "gotta have it", but that's like playing Trivial Pursuit and saying "Well I would've won if I'd known the answers"...

Just making a point. Those criteria are a little subjective.
Keep in mind I do drive a G and not a TL...

Rob_G35,
While I DO own a G35 and prefer it to ALL versions of the 3-series (for various reasons), in defense of the 325, take a look at the performance numbers for the 180hp engine they have! Imagine that car with 260hp and it would DESTROY the G35.
Of course, I think it is just a matter of correct gearing. IMO, the gearing is all wrong for this engine, with the peakiness of its torque/hp curves.
Anyway, at least the G35 is getting the respect it deserves!
