Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

we live in a townhouse complex with subterrain garages. i scrape a bit coming out over the sidewalk with people in the back seat, but not with 2 people.

i stopped over the side walk yesterday and took a peek underneath and saw what was scraping, but couldn't tell what it was (catalytic, drive shaft, rear diff?). it looked like some sort of box-shaped thing between front cardboard thing and the rear axle. anybody know what this is?

sorry for the bad description, but i haven't seen under the G on a rack yet.

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

Speaking of oil drain valves. I had one of these on my '85 Supra way back when, which I turboed. But I have been looking for this thingy since I sold that car. Isn't the internet GREAT!
Installed one on the "G" 2 weekend ago, when I changed the oil. Works great! No more messy hands! Yeah!!

BTW, it was not snowing at the time when I changed the oil! Just thought I'd throw that in.LOL

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

Hey Merlin, I like the drain valve. Their site lists the p/n for our cars as F103, or F103 'with nipple'. Which did you buy.
And did you purchase on the internet? I've not done that yet.
The price is reasonable and you say it makes the job that much 'cleaner'.

PS: Gord has a habit of forgeting to refill the crankcase. Long story- he'll share that with you sometime.
Don't tell him I told ya. shHHHHHHHHHHHHH
PPS: If you'd like some snow, there's some here you'd be welcome to. Actually there's a bunch not too far up the coast.
They really got hit hard. OUCH.
L8r dude......

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

Gsedanman,
I got the F103 without the nipple. didn't think I needed it since our drain is so easy to get to. It does make the job a whole lot easier and cleaner.

Gord, just gets excited about driving his "G" again and wanted to do the Castrol Syntech test like on TV! Shhhhhhh Hehehehe

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

Yeah, yeah. Good thing it was a John Deer and NOT the G!

It seems to be working okay so far. had to scrape the drive way this W/E and I blew the HUGE chunks of ice into the Cul-de-Sac for the snow plows to pile up when they grated the residential streets.

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

BIGTIME!!
My driveway is on a incline and i have pull out slowly because of the aero trim in the front and if I back out the exhaust of the muffler scrapes sometimes, but all the time if I have backseat passengers. Yeah this worries me, I now tell people to get in after I have backed out on the street.

Man I thought about this topic and posting but never did.

Man this forum is great.

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

what's the pre-muffler part? just exhaust pipe between cat and muffler?

gordgee: thanks for the pic, although i still can't quite tell what everything is.

Re: Anybody scrape coming out of their driveway??

Huge rectangle looking iron box, not sure if it is a heat shield or another muffler (pre-muffler) restricting the exhaust. But getting it off will save a HUGE amount of weight.
