G35x RPM Question

Just picked up my new G35x Friday. Two things have come up since I picked it up, first my G35 revs at about 3000 rpm at 80mph is this right? I know most German Cars rev high I didn't know this car is suppose to. Second question is when I'm at or above 90 mph I hear and feel the car start shaking. It's not a horrible shake but I definately feel something. Thanks for any help!

Re: G35x RPM Question

3K at 80mph sounds about right to me. I haven't noticed any shaking but maybe it's not perceptable to me.

Re: G35x RPM Question

3000 rpm at 80 MPH is pretty low rpms for a high performance car. The shaking at 90 MPH is probably wheel balance. Wheels are typically balanced at 60 MPH. On new tires it could just be a high spot, that may wear away.

Re: G35x RPM Question

Marty,
You are partially right about rpms in a high performance car but our G35 Sedan is not a high performance car. Not like the true sport cars. If you look at a comparable car like the Acura TL, there is a big difference in rpm at 80mph. But the performance is very similiar. I've had lots of High Performance vehicles like the M3 and M5 and a Mercedes E55 AMG, and a Toyota Supra TT, 3000GT, 350z, Corvette Z06, Camaro Z28 SS... and out of my cars the G35x revs the second highest, second to my '97 M3 (at 80mph, rpm was at 3500rpm). I just think it weird to see my car at that rpm only doing 80mph. I'm very surprise no one else thinks so.

Re: G35x RPM Question

3K RPM - 80 MPH sounds about right. Shaking....maybe it's the wheel balancing?

If it's a G it's 4 me!

Re: G35x RPM Question

So, everybody that replied never experienced anything abnormal at speeds of 90 or greater. I just want to make sure before I go to my dealer. At 80 my car is fine it's when I hit 90mph or above.

Re: G35x RPM Question

My old manual 5 speed Lexus IS300 ran at about 3,000 rpm at 65 MPH. One of the reasons why I got rid of it.

Re: G35x RPM Question

My insurance is not too bad. Are you really putting our G35 sedan in the Sport Car, High Performance category? Don't get me wrong the G35 Sedan is a great car and I bought it for what it is, a great everyday car, not because it's a great High Performance car. If that was the case I would have kept my E55 AMG or my M5, but both cars suck for maintenance and reliability. I hope I don't have these problems with the G35, paying 2-3 grand a year on maintenance. I'm bringing the G35 in to get my spoiler put on next week, sounds like I should ask about the humming/vibration at 90 mph because no one else with a G35x has experienced anything like this.

SixgearSedan,
What year was your IS300. I heard that car handles awsome.

Re: G35x RPM Question

I'm not the one that makes it "high-perf" -- my insurance company did that all by themselves.

Re: G35x RPM Question

I think we all know insurance companies are out to make money, one way they do this is by calling a sedan a high performance car.

ryoken, sounds like you're upset about your insurance costs. If you haven't try country companies. They offer the lowest rates and handle claims very well.

Re: G35x RPM Question

I'm actually with a company that offers the lowest rates I can find, plus they have excellent customer service and claims service.

Re: G35x RPM Question

ryoken,
Sounds like you are a man that set on his ways. Please stop complaining about your insurance if you're not willing to try something else.

I'm not sure how my last comment comes across as a complaint.. but okay. Whatever.

Re: G35x RPM Question

You can't go 155 mph if you're running 5000 rpm at 80 mph in high gear. You would run out of rpms long before you get there. For example, most of the old GTO's (not the "Judge")were geared very low and could break the tires loose in all of the lower gears, but they also had top speeds of barely 100mph.
