Stillens stop me so fast, that...

Anybody have the [2-pc Front] Stillen Big Brake Kit?

I have a question that is somewhat tongue-in-cheek: Anyone having trouble keeping the rear armrest in the upright position during hard braking?

Today, with my new brakes fully bedded and broken-in, I had a traffic signal turn yellow right in front of me as I legally approached an intersection at about 50-mph. This presented an opportunity to hit either the brake or the gas pedal hard. I had nobody behind me, so I decided to hit the brake hard for the first time since I've had them.

Immediately after I hit the brake pedal, my rear armrest pivoted forward and deployed itself fully to the seat. That sucker flung itself open like a switchblade! I felt the ABS pulse very briefly, maybe for a fraction of a second, as the car came down mightily to a NON-screeching halt. I have been driving for just shy of 30 years, and I have NEVER felt brakes haul a car down to a stop like that before. I stopped about 2 car-lengths shorter than I expected, forcing me to coast on up to the line.

The brake kit is not grabby (like the stockers were). They are absolutely silent, and they engage very smoothly. Wow, what an improvement.

I've managed to throw the rear armrest down several times with the stock brakes. Usually on an autocross course, the chance doesn't present itself often in normal driving. Currently, there's a childseat blocking the armrest's path, so it tends to stay put. (You should hear some of the comments I get from other drivers doing autocross with a childseat in the car.)

LOL!

I've heard those child seats add about 5-HP at the wheels!

The childseat has to have a TRD sticker on it and you get 20hp

The childseat doesn't give me nearly as much power as the Garfield suction cupped to the left rear window.

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think "catapulting" the rear arm rest out would make a nice tidbit in a G commercial? =]

Yes, I can just envision that commercial now...

"Among the many fine appointments you'll find in its plush interior is the automatic rear armrest. Just mash the brake, and the well-padded armrest deploys in the blink of an eye to cradle your rear passengers' inboard elbows in luxurious comfort..."

Are you guys still running stock tires? If so...
You won't believe how everything works with really sticky tires! =)

Nope. Look at my sig. I've got SSR GT1 18 x 8 wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position SO3 225/45/18 tires in front and 18 x 9 wheels shod with 255/40/18 tires in back. But you are correct about the improvement over a stock tire and wheel set.

Re: Stillens stop me so fast, that...

yeah the stock brakes do just fine at dropping the armrest. Many times coming off the interstate, I have mashed em hard. Metal Matrix brake pads will do that to the armrest at about 130 mph too.

Re: Stillens stop me so fast, that...

That's funny. I accelerated so fast, that my rear ashtray fell out of the console. Actually the metal detent spring broke, causing the ashtray to fall out, but it was funny. (I would like to believe it was the 'G' Force though.

BTW. I ordered the new ashtray (warranty) and the service writer said that it has happened a few times that he knows of. Anyone else?

Yes. The spring broke on my rear ashtray and the whole assembly fell out on the floor.

Re: Stillens stop me so fast, that...

Does anybody have a Stillen [front] 2-pc Big Brake Kit on their car? Anybody have the Stillen [rear] 2-pc kit? Anyone think the rear brake kit would be a waste of money, or is it worth it? Please advise.

Thanks.
