yea plus 1 to that......stupid cheap hinges on a expensive car and dealerbull**** that should have been re-called

just move the hood over and re align it and retighten the bolts

ur not the only one with this problem though.....just sucks and always makes u nervous opening the hood

Hmm, does anyone know what is the recommended lube?

I'm going to question a few local dealerships about what they do for the normal maintenance, to see if they mention anything about hood hinges.

For some reason, I wouldn't expect WD40 to last that long. With rain and what not getting into that area of the car.

 

so im guessing that the dealership will not fix just that. They said it is caused from the person who did my oil change that didnt lube it. Either try and buy some white lithium grease and see if that fixes it or take it to get my next oil change from them, which is $50 and supposely they will fix it.

 

wd40 repells water and worked for me for a month now lol...so we will see

 

WD40 will not lubricate the hinges for more than a few days, nor will it keep them dry. You need grease in there.

 

Im going to buy white lithium grease. Should I get the spray kind or the squeeze tube? I think you have a choice. I dont think I can get in to the hinges good, so spray seems ideal.

 

id say the spray and just put go nuts ....let me know how long it works for .....might try that......

def dont feel like getting new hinges and then the possibility of even them getting messed up in the future and not to mention the dealer employees working on my car and prolly cracking my hood

please - just lubricate all the hinges on your vehicle at least once a month with silicone spray or lithium w/e.

adjust the hood yourself

these arent "dealer" tasks. you can do all this crap yourself in under 5 minutes

 

Except for adjusting the hood hinges. Especially if you are by yourself

 

I have this problem, now, too! Went to pop the hood to check oil/K&N and heard this scrape. *&^% hood rubbed the fender and took some paint off both! I had my windshield replaced recently and I assume they had my hood off, so I was gonna go back to the shop, make them fix it, and then rip them a new one, but now I'm wondering if it was unrelated and just due to not lubing the hood hignes (I was unaware of this issue til I experienced it). So I lubed the hinges good with lithium grease and I'll see if they work any better tonight. Seems like the passenger side one may be a little bent now.

 

Alrite guys i had the same problem with my car. Its 2005 so late 06 I could not open the hood. No matter how crappy material it is... it doesnt go bad in a year. So its definitely design issue. I went to the dealer... dont know what they did but since car was under warranty they fixed it. I havnt had the same issue since. I do get nervous opening the hood tho... I have never had this problem with any other car. Im quite disappointed in knowing that a lot of you are experiencing the same issue.

 

I have the same problem with my 06 G35x, the hood is not sitting flush to the fender. I also had an 04 G35 coupe and it was very evident that the hinges from the hood were rubbing against something when trying to close it. Plus both hinges were not flush and were rubbing the fenders and stripping the paint off consistently. I'll have 30k mile service soon, guess i'll mention it.
