Ya...I have some good All-Seasons, but once the temperatures drop below 40 (the high in UT has been in the 30's all Winter) the tires are pointless.

I'm currently in the process of finding a cheap set of 17" snows.

Please don't add fluid, because that will fix the symptom but to nothing do fix the problem.

They are just trying to justify why they bought their subarus. Snow tires are made for snow, all-seasons/summer tire are not. You'll be driving a completely different beast if you get snow tires.
Psst, just to let you know AWD will not save you if you don't wear the right rubber. I had all four wheels slip in an AWD in just rain! (brand new summer tires) I regained control within a couple of seconds though

They are filling you with ignorance and misinformation Janik. A RWD G equipped with proper winter tires will be better than your X with AS tires. Every single article, review, etc that I have ever seen has always placed a RWD car with winter tires ahead of a AWD with AS tires. I've been making out just fine driving a RWD G with winter tires for over 4 years now.

You'll be fine as long as you've got proper rubber.

They dont get that and it pisses me off (sorry, but it is annoying. They wanna put me in some POS old Subaru. I told them no thanks and id rather drive the Trailblazer.

Then my mom, today, is talking to sombody about a claim on their brand new 08 G (got hit in a parking lot) and they said that they had a RWD G before it and said the car just blew in bad conditions. So THEN she goes and tries to find me a AWD G with a 6mt! (i told her good luck with that LOL)

Im still gonna get a RWD and snow tires, then show them whats up.

I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and got a RWD with "performance" winter tires and they're awesome. We've also experienced below 40 degree weather the last few days and I've had no problems on the roads. Some places you can literally see the reflection of the vehicle in front of you...grab a pair of skates and you'll probably get to places faster. Tonight it's going to dip down to -37 degree Celsius (pretty close to Fahrenheit when it's this low) but with wind chill factored in it should be hitting around -50 or -60 depending on wind speeds. Basically, if you drive carefully, don't slam on the gas and got a good set of winter tires on, you should have little to no issues with a RWD.

Dude, you cant shut them up for anything. Ever since my sisters bf came along, he has brainwashed her into obsessing over subarus and Fords. Before he was here, she wanted a Silverado and a nice 350Z. Now its an F350 and god **** STi!

Hahaha...just re-read the above post and realized you guys are talking about POSITIVE 40 degrees fahrenheit ... not NEGATIVE 40 degrees. Well, at least you can rest assured that the temperature can still drop another 80 or so degrees and your winter tires will still be a-ok! I can be testimony to that.

Snow tires MAKE the car. It's blizzardy in Chicago right now, and even when we had lots of accumulation eariler this winter, a full tank of gas plus Dunlop M3's... let me just say as long as you drive carefully, there should be no reason you can't get along in the winter.
