Simply to state what other cars can do in REAL TEST not what you see in magazines.

Yeah? And...? The Quest has the VQ35DE, the 350Z has it, the Altima 3.5SE has it, the 2005 Pathfinder will most likely use it...Was there a point? Are we supposed to be awed? A vehicle is the sum of its parts, not just the engine...

I can't see the harm of dropping the info off on the maxima. 1 I don't believe that an auto max could pull those numbers but if true, then it's nice to know

I like to lurk on quite a few other car forums. It's the spice of life.

SnMDesignStudio, The '04 Max doesn't just use the VQ35DE, it uses the WHOLE front end from the Quest Minivan! Ugghhh!!

Re: 2k4 auto Maxima runs 14.2!!

No time slip = no care and for this case I'd have to see a video of it to really believe it.

I drove a 2002 maxima auto for 1 year. Fastest time it ran was 15.3

I remember at the time the other 5th gen AUTO maximas were running at best 14.7/.8
Maybe the fastest was 14.6 but it wasn't all stock (intake etc )

No way the leap in generations shaves off half a second off the fastest of the fastest times.

And you know what, he could have ran a 14.2 .... but that means nothing because most maximas WILL NOT run anything close to that. End of story.

This is just a case of a maxima owner trying to somehow compare the maxima to the g.

Re: 2k4 auto Maxima runs 14.2!!

i didnt mean for this thread to get out of hand, but it seems there are a few tight ***** here.

I am in no way comparing FWD to RWD, plz do not assume that.

I am however, interested in the fact that the 2k4 max may have more power somewhere that the G doesn't have. there was also another 2k4 auto had ran 14.4...so i'm not gonna say that low -mid 14s are rare, but i'll say that it is capable.

i guess no one here is surprised, like i am, that the new fat and heavy max can keep up with a G in a straight line

Re: 2k4 auto Maxima runs 14.2!!

There is 350Z STOCK!! that runs 13.8 1/4 mile and also no one is comparing G to Max cause there are 2 different cars built for different purposes. As far as maxima going 14.2 i really believe that because the hardest thing to do on that car is get a fast start because of its front wheel spin.
Maxima is a nice, midsize, powerfull sedan and there is no need to get all flamy. It was just a number so you guys know and whoever doesnt care dont even respond and say "Maxima cant run 14.2 PERIOD". Dont get me wrong i love Gs my friend has a Gcoupe and there is no need to fight for a number that is possible to get on a car that you havent even driven.

Peace.

Re: 2k4 auto Maxima runs 14.2!!

Hooby,

Simply judging 5th generation based on your own 15.3 time does not mean of car capabilities and states of your inability to drive. FWD is biatch to launch and you have to learn with practise how to. 6th generation, however took people by surprise since evybody thought that heavier new version should run slower and reality shows otherwise with a conclusion that new Maxima is underrated.

Here are the typical times (source - Maxima.org)
5th Gen VQ35

Manual
Typical Stock: mid-14's
Best Stock: 14.1-14.3 (a bunch)
a mod or two: high-13's

Auto
Typical Stock: high-14's
Best Stock: 14.6-14.7, one 14.4

Now if 14.2 wasn't accurate for 6th gen. and many ran 14.3 and 14.4, why do you think Moderator and other senior members approved it over there. They indeed request to post the timeslip so Im pretty sure it will show up soon. You should ask people here about a timeslip anytime they post their numbers. So far I have seen NONE.

Happy driving

SnMDesignStudio,

Are you trying to turn this into an ignorant thread?
You failed to give proper respect to other cars, and this is not a Honda fanboy site. And who told you we cant discuss other sedans here.

Since many ask questions regarding other cars performance this was simply posted for information ONLY with REAL-WORLD RESULTS. Was there a point, yes indeed - bigger and heavier Maxima with FWD and TORQUE STEER can run next to your G or faster.

Kapeesh?

Like I said, you dont care ... move on.

Really, what other techniques besides brake torquing do you have to use when running an AUTOMATIC car.

And granted my car did get lemon lawed for a bad transmission they couldnt fix after 12+ tries, but it is highly unlikely a 2004 maxima auto ran a 14.2 stock.
