2k4 auto maxima runs 14.2 @ 96mph with a 2.1 60'

That's nice. Did I mention to you guys that I took my loaner I35 to sears point and I was pulling consistent 14.1 but my best was a 13.8.

Why would anyone in a g35 sedan forum care what a maxima ran?

Stock Maximas cannot run 14.2 End of story. Maybe on a downhill slope.

For what its worth I test drove one before I got my G, thought it looked ok and could save some dollars - this is not in the same ball park - maxima is huge and wobbly and the front drive and torque steer make the TL seem well sorted. No way you can pull those numbers without shredding the tires and needing a wide road to control the gyrations. Enjoy it for what it is - an Import attempt at an American car - but its no sports car.

 

Once I saw it in person I wasn't even interested in test driving it. It looks cobbled together from various other Nissan designs. It has, an Altima ***, 350Z wheels, and a bucktoothed grill from a friggin' Nissan Quest Minivan. In fact, upon closer inspection the WHOLE front end came from the Quest Minivan. I'm not sure WHERE they got the taillights, but you can bet they were leftovers from something! All in all an unlovely Frankenstein of a car that I wouldn't want if it ran a 12 sec. 1/4 mile! Never mind the torque steer.

That's nice buddy. It's nice to know that our big bro is that fast. Let me get this, if auto maxima is running that fast, then I guess 6sp Maxima is faster than 350Z 6sp, right?
Maybe you got the Nissan's top secret model.

 

Maybe it is because it has so much meat. I mean 245/45-18 should facilitate good launch.

My uncle picked up a fully loaded 04 Maxima. I had the opportunity to drive it and race against my G35x. First the power definitely affects the steering and I didn't like it. Second, it felt very heavy in the turns. Third, it was slower then my G35x off the line and in the long run or at least up to 100 MPH. The G35x is suppose to be a little slower then the 6 speed G. My conclusion....either that guy had one strong Maxima or he is full of it.
I like the looks of the back of the car, they can keep the rest. Weird sunroof too.
My uncle thought the G35x was a much nicer driving car then his.

If it's a G it's 4 me!

I've driven quite a few '04 Maximas and while the SE six-speed is an okay performer, it isn't as fierce as the poster of this thread is making it out to be...Once again, the Maxima's torque steer is a problem, as it has been for years...It isn't as though the Max is a horrible ride, but it isn't a G35...I like it, but I like it for what it is, and have no illusions as to what this car can do

Here is my thought:
This exemplifies that 6th gen. Maxima 2004 (VQ35) is underrated. Thats is the only reason I can explain that a heavy (3436 lbs) stock sedan (comparing to older Maximas) with heavy 55lbs 18" rims/tires on each corner plus AUTO transmission could deliver 14.2 seconds. This time was posted to maxima.org, so its legit. Another guys already ran the same auto sedan and showed 14.3 and 14.4, therefore its not considered as "miracle". I've never seen any independent dyno of 2k4 Maxima so power under the curve will be good to see.
