Re: Painting sills , front& rear bumpers?

I have a question for anyone who has painted their sills. What did you do with the black rubber trim on the bottom of the doors? Remove it, trim it back, or leave it as is?

I checked at a couple of shops here in PA. The first quoted me a price of $658 and stated that the front and rear bumper trim couldn't be removed and would have to be painted on the vehicle. Granted, I left there knowing that I wouldn't return.

The manager at the second shop warned me up front that their prices were higher than some of the other local shops, but that their price included a full interior and exterior detailing of the vehicle. They also do a lot of work for the BMW and Lexus dealers in the area. Quoted me a price of $515 with a full guarantee and said that I shouldn't have issues with the paint holding up.

Mine was left black. I think the paint would flake off the rubber as it flexes. I had the bumpers removed and the sills removed and painted.

Yes, the front and rear black pieces are black and one piece with the bumpers. If they are a good bodyshop they will remove all four pieces for you and spray them.

BTW, check ur PM about the rubber strips

It's still a G thang!!

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to get it painted next week. The second shop did say that they would remove all parts before painting, and I'll leave the rubber strip on the doors as is.

As long as they use the correct amount of flex agent, the paint should not peel/flake. Any decent body shop should be able to do this....

Anyone who had their sills painted knows of a good shop around LA area? If so, also how much did you pay?

Thanks in advance.
