After a drive this afternoon I came home and after about an hour I go out on an errand. It's about 45 degrees outside. I start the car and the outside temp reads 60 and the a/c is blowing cool air in. Is this because the temp sensor is close to the engine or something? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, same here, but if I understand how the AC works, the sensor inside the windshield controls the temp inside, not the outside temp indicator. I have seen the outside temp be rather far off from actual temp, but it comes back down after driving a short distance.

The Auto A/C system is controlled by input from four sources:

1. Outside ambient temperature.
2. In-vehicle sensor (located just above the driver's right knee)
3. Intake temperature sensor (located within the air-mix box)
4. Sunload sensor

The role of the sunload sensor includes choosing the best fan speed in hot conditions. You may also want to know that the sensors can be "trimmed" or adjusted up to +/-3F.

Oh, I didn't know it was that complex a system, where is the temp sensor on the dash? The manual says it's the one on the passenger side of the dash, but that controls the auto lights, a friend had put a folder on that and my lights came on!

On a US model LHD sedan, the sun sensor is the round thing (about the size of a quarter) located on the driver side. (The same place on the passenger side has the GPS antenna for the Nav).

The interior air temp sensor is located just above the driver's knee in the lower dash. It looks like a small ventilation grill, about 1/2" x 1" in size.

Well, maybe then if you don't have the Nav, they both are for sun then, I will have to check mine this afternoon.

Nope. If you don't have the Nav, there may still be a little semi-transparent window on the passenger side. It just won't have a GPS antenna in it!

Okay, I did a test on mine today, if I cover the one on the driver side, nothing happens, cover the one on the passenger side, lights come on

Yep, LHD, in New Mexico, USA, LOL! Yeah, my owners manual shows it being the left side one as well, have you tried yours to see? I'd be curious to know! LOL, maybe it lost something in the translation, I had a shop manual for my old '73 Datsun PU, and followed the procedure for adjusting the timing and points, spent two hours screwing with it, then thought maybe they had it backwards, damned if they didn't, worked right away that way! LOL! Maybe somethings about Nissan haven't changed!
