Dealershipt Scams - Please help

So there was something wrong with my CD player. Called the Infiniti dealership. They tell me the CD player cannot be fixed and will need to be replaced. New one costs $4000. So i told them i had extended warranty on my car. They tell me extended warranty doesn't cover it. So i call Infiniti and they say it's covered, so i call the dealership back... they tell me it's not covered again so i tell them to call Inifiniti....
So i get a call back the next day saying okay yeah it's covered.
Anyways, i get it replaced then... the lights in my Infiniti clock go out.

So i call and complain to the Service manager at the dealership about the bad information i got from the service department. He is apologetic and stuff. Then about the clock, he says the following, and that is what i'm trying to verify:

"If the clock is working and the lights are not, then the bulbs have burnt out and need to be replaced $20/pop and there are two bulbs. I'll throw in the labour because of the bad service you got."

Now i want to know if that's true. He said that if the clock wasn't working then it would be just a plug they forgot to attach, but if it's working then it's the bulbs.

It's hard for me to believe that BOTH the bulbs go out right after i get the car back from the dealership. And with the track record, it's hard for me to believe them.

The front left pilar of my car was also leaking water, and the service manager said that wasn't covered either. When i call Infiniti, they weren't sure, but they said if it's a defect it would be covered. And a windshield leakage would be a defect according to me.

What are your thoughts?? I really love my G35, but this isn't looking good.... Really making me think twice about ever buying another Infiniti...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

this is a problem with one dealership ruining it for everyone. Granted the G has some annoying defects. but guess what, every car does. Coming from a BMW i'll tell you the g has been great to me. Anyway, with the extended warranty there is no way that **** isn't covered, that's what they are for. I've heard the bulb burning it in the clock and that is a common problem. If you have any experience with trim **** with cars it's not hard to do it yourself. As for the pillars get them to do it.

sorry to hear about your troubles, imo its likely this happened while they were taking apart or reassembling your center console when they were replacing the radio. They dealer should replace the bulbs for free, since you caught the problem soon after the radio replacement thus that should provide enough proof to say that they caused the bulbs to burn out/break. It could be a coincidence, and your extended warranty should cover the clock (i think). It may or may not have been done on purpose, probably unlikely but some places will do just about anything to make a quick buck. Also, the windshield leak should be covered under warranty, its a defect. If Go to another dealer if possible.

This is my 2nd dealership and i'm going to have to abandon them.... they are charging me $20/bulb. Such scammers!! I think it's time to write a letter to Infiniti and tell them about this. This is pure sham!!

If your clock isn't working at all, you can always take off the cover and check the plug yourself. If you search for it, you can find a DIY on it, and as goes for the bulbs, you can also change that yourself for cheaper then the stealership. As goes for your windshield, have you checked for a crack? Its weird that it would start leaking all of a sudden~ The sunroof leaking was a problem but duno bout the pillar~

Bring it to us if you're in So-Cal.

I don't know why the dealership wouldn't honor warranty work... it's not coming out of their pocket.

Is your warranty an Infiniti warranty or 3rd party?

Sorry to hear about your radio/clock light issues with the dealer. As for the clock lights you might want to look into the following threads.

Thanks guys, u guys are really helpful!....

Mike i wish i was in SO-Cal.... I live in Canada....
And my warranty is from INFINITI... so technically, if i was in So.Cali with my car, you would be able to fix it... but it'd be one hell of a drive for a repair job

Yeah, i've just had really bad experience with the dealerships.

Is what the guy told me true?? If the clock is still working, is it the bulbs that are gone??

And i'm gonna read over the threads u guys told me about...Thanks

find a different dealer ... I know it's PIA but you need to have a guy that you trust ... if the lights never worked after you got the stereo repaired, try to push the service manger to replace them for free since it happened while the car was in their possession and most probably is a result of mechanic being not careful ( I would guess that some one shorted the wires during install or physically damaged bulbs/connectors) …. Also mentioned to him that after performing 4k repair a good customer service oriented dealer will repair something like that just because the probability of them being the cause of malfunction is pretty considerable

Well i actually did not end up spending the $4K cause the extended Infiniti warranty covered it. The Service manager did tell me he'd pay the labour and he just wants me to buy the bulbs.... (i wonder what he's say if i told him i'd bring my own bulbs? :P) They are quoting $18 Canadian/bulb and now days that's $20 US haha

Thats about right for those bulbs actually, they're not regular bulbs you'd put into a taillight or side marker, they are application and color specific. As for a windsiheld leak, if you have had your windshield replaced at any time then it won't be covered by any warranty, factory or otherwise. It is true that you have to move the clock (not remove totally or unplug) to replace the radio, but i seriously doubt that they somehow magically caused the bulbs to burn out, they're bulbs and this is a common problem on all nissans (mine too).

My windshield's never been removed or replaced or changed.
It seems like the bond between the windshield might have leaks in it according to what the service manager told me on the phone when i mentioned it to him.

I will take it to a 3rd dealership and see if they try to screw me or not... If they also try, i'm going straight to Infiniti and asking them to fix it cause i sure can't trust there dealerships.

Regarding the bulbs...it was just odd that the bulb burns out the EXACT same time the car went in for repair. This on top with the track record my dealership has makes me think they are scamming me.

Now everything the dealership does makes me think they are scamming me. That's the relationship they have harvested.

Sorry to hear that. If necessary, just contact infiniti directly. It might take a while, but if it escalates high enough, they will reimburse you for work done, if corporate thinks that it is justified.

Dealer got paid, who cares who signed the check. The important thing that you chose to give them the business.
As far as I know dealer gets reimbursed for any warranty service, and makes a decent profit doing it. Some one correct me if I am wrong.
