After reading this thread i've decided to change the original battery in my wife's '05 Maxima tonight. I'm going with a Duralast 24F Gold. I put the same battery in our back-up vehicle, '97 Maxima, last year. My G will get one next fall.

I still have the original in my '06. Last time i load tested it it tested fine. On nice 10 degree mornings, there is no hesitation in cranking over, so i'm confident with it for now.

When it goes...i'll get a diehard gold. I've had good luck with them

Figures now that I posted on here, I have noticed during these 10-15 degree mornings that my 05 g is turning over a little slower..though faster still than alot of cars ive had. I'll have to keep an eye on this I guess..

Mine's 4 years old and still fine. It will *not* survive another Texas summer however...I think Summer's harder on batteries than winter...

You're right Alex. At higher temps the reversible form of lead sulfate turns more quickly to the non reversible crystal form. So your battery is said to sulfate up. when the bottom of the battery fills with sulfate crystals they will short out the lead plates = dead battery.

Interesting to know - that was just my hunch but it seems there is some science behind it.

Bought my G Oct '08. Battery left me stranded in parking garage at work the next day.

I think this is fairly common.

Replaced mines today with a Exide Nascar Select battery today. The fit is not perfect though. The width is about 1/2 inch smaller so when the battery metal clamp goes over it it doesn't make a perfect fit. The clam is L shape. So one side the L shape clamp snaps right in and the other side the edge is pushing against the battery plastic area so it doesn't move. Hard to explain. The red spots on the terminal is from the battery protector sprays.

The OEM battery date is Aug 2004. It's still working but it usually has about 50% charge or around 12.2+ volts so I figured it's time to change.

Just replaced my oem battery with a Duralast Platinum from Autozone w/750CC. I got 5 1/2 years out of it so I really can't complain. Plus it gave out now instead of the dead of winter which was convenient.

2005 with 70K on the original, but it struggled a little bit on really cold days last winter. It's fine in the warmer weather, but I'm going to replace it before the snow starts up again. Duralast or Diehard Gold, haven't decided yet.

Looks like I will be replacing my battery in the coming year, it's been replaced once before. Going with the Optima Yellow Top battery.

Duralast Gold and Diehard Gold, are the same battery so go with the cheaper one.
