Re: Short travel to work.. 5AT..best mileage ideas?
I just did my first oil change. 3600 on ODO. I'm averaging 14.9mpg between last 4 fillups.80% city driving. Driving is 50/50 lead foot/steady cruising.
Spending $100/month more than my previous car. Not very happy about it, there's a good part though. I bike to work at least twice a week now (8miles one way)
Even though I attribute it to new engine, I'm pretty sad that twin-turbo Volvo SUV gets average of 17.2mpg within its first 6k miles.
Zimbo:After being upset with mileage on G I test drove Prius!!! Unreasonably slow and feels very unstable.
However if gas prices jump over $3/gallon, I'll be getting rid of one of the gas-guzzlers in the family and that wouldn't be our volvo.

Re: Short travel to work.. 5AT..best mileage ideas?
Just a follow-up.
Went on a road trip to LA. Cruise at 75mph averaging 18mpg, wtf ???? I know EPA numbers are not perfect but this is 8mpg deviation from posted number.
I'm currently looking for a better job and some lucrative opportunities come up but require 70+ mile roundtrip daily commute. At current gas prices my calculations yield $3200/year in gas alone. Simillar calculations for Prius are around $700.
Add insurance difference to that and hybrid starts making more and more sense.
And on the price diff between G and Prius + 1 year of savings I can get 260+whp 240 that will keep me happy on weekends.
Flames are expected.
