painting my stock grill

im thinking about painting my grill...is there anything i should do before actually painting it. like prep because i know its chrome platted so do i have to sand it or just prime it then paint it???

you need to sand off most of the chrome coating and get a rough surface, then smooth it out with a higher grit. Primer, Paint and Clear and you're done.

sand it down until there is no chrome/shine left prime and paint.

search though. there are several threads about this plus a DIY

you don't have to take off all the chrome. just get it to a dull finish - 320/400 grit sandpaper should be suffice. after that, hit it with a few dust coats of primer, at least 3 coats of paint, and at least 3 coats of clear. also, be sure to work in a ventilated area

would the clear coat give it a shiny glossy finish???

There is a shop maybe 1 mile from my house. They do sandblasting. Do you think that would be okay or do you think that it would be to harsh?

that should be fine. shops do that to the headlight bezels and they are thinner and weaker than our grills
