With my 5AT G, spinning the tires on a launch is largely dependant on:

1) Temp. The colder it is, the easier it is to spin the tires.
2) Road conditions and type.
3) Launch rpm/brake stall

Sometime I can spin the tires through 1st while still accelerating quite nicely. Other times I'll only get about 1 to 5 feet of spin. At the strip, the car barely chirps a tire. If you try to launch and auto without braking stalling, it's not going to spin. You need to build up some torque multiplication. A 6MT would be the same way. It won't spin the tires if you let the clutch out mash the gas at 1000rpms. It will just bog badly.

I had a base 06 auto recently as a rental. I covered the car with smoke with just VDC off. I was surprised i was able to do it and the car did not move an inch.

Just depends on the surface. Here's a 2000rpm launch in 95 degree weather.

^OMG exhibition of speed! lol J/K
It looked like the surface was dusty thus allowing that much wheels spin. In my case it was dry and weather was in 60s. I was in complete stop and the gas and braked and wasted good amount of rubber and covered the car with smoke without any difficulties. If i wanted to i could have blown the tire up because i was not even hitting the rev limiter and burning out with gas and brake.

That’s not necessarily true... I almost always launch off idle and spin every time.

Yes, yes it is.. neons are faster than your car.

Seriously, who cares, if you want to do a burn out, feather the breaks, press on the accelerator and watch the smoke..

You also have 10% more torque multiplication in 1st than a stock 5AT since you've got the deeper gears. Don't you also have a different torque converter? If so, that's make even a bigger difference.

I shouldn't have said that it's impossible to spin the tires without brake stalling because I do remember a couple of time where I've done it trying to cross traffic and I nailed the throttle in 1st and the tire spun a couple times and then the VDC stopped it. I can't do it with my 18" PZeros though. They bite much harder than my 17" Avons do.
